Recently, I had the opportunity to dine at a well-reputed restaurant in Barcelona, enticed by promises of the city's finest Sangria and Paella. The experience, however, left much to be desired, particularly when confronted with the exorbitant prices.
Starting with the Sangria, priced at a staggering 40 euros, it was indeed a delightful blend of flavors that momentarily justified its cost. However, the same cannot be said for the Paella, which, at a hefty 80 euros for two people, proved to be a significant letdown.
Despite the steep price tag, the Paella failed to live up to expectations. The dish was marred by an overpowering bitterness, making it nearly inedible. Adding insult to injury, the Paella was riddled with an unacceptable amount of sand, a culinary mishap that was difficult to overlook. The seafood portion was disappointingly sparse, featuring minuscule shrimp and a noticeable absence of substantial clams. This fell far short of the gastronomic masterpiece promised by the restaurant's reputation.
Although the service at the restaurant was commendable, with attentive and courteous staff, it couldn't fully compensate for the disappointing culinary experience.
With a total bill of 120 euros for Sangria and Paella for two people, the prices seemed outrageously disproportionate to the quality of the food. My advice to fellow diners would be to approach this establishment with caution, carefully considering whether the steep prices are justified by the overall dining experience. While the Sangria may be worth a try, splurging on a subpar Paella at such a high cost is not a wise investment. In a city with a wealth of culinary options, one can undoubtedly find better value for money elsewhere...
Read moreOur last night in Barcelona — and the last night of our European trip — was spent at L’Amfora Barcelona, and it could not have been a more perfect ending. From the moment we arrived, Michael, the owner, personally welcomed our family and ensured every detail of the evening was taken care of. When the owner himself is this involved, the experience transcends ordinary dining and becomes something unforgettable.
We started with Crystal bread with aioli and tomatoes and ham croquettes. The bread was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly paired with the aioli, while the croquettes were golden, crisp, and creamy inside — comfort food elevated to perfection. Michael took the time to accommodate food allergies at our table, adding a level of care and attention that made the experience even more personal and memorable.
For drinks, we enjoyed the sangria, smooth, refreshing, and perfectly balanced. It paired beautifully with our meal and added a celebratory touch to our final night in Europe.
For the main courses, we shared both the seafood paella (loaded with shrimp and clams, smoky and rich) and the mountain paella (hearty, earthy, and rustic). Both dishes were phenomenal — true masterpieces of authentic Spanish cuisine. Each bite reflected skill, tradition, and care, making this meal one of the most memorable of our entire trip.
To close the evening, I took a photo with Michael outside the restaurant, capturing a memory that perfectly reflected the warmth, hospitality, and exceptional cuisine we experienced. L’Amfora Barcelona made our final night in Europe an evening we will...
