Wanted to grab something quick to go: feta and spinach pastry and brioche with mascarpone and raspberries and flat white which I asked for with w/ room-temperature oat milk to be able to drink it on the go. Friendly staff for the pastry but maybe the lone barista was overwhelmed. The flat white was not started until I had paid, and it turned out that the pastry staff forgot to tell the barista to use room-temperature milk. She handed it to me boiling hot, and I asked if she were sure it was room temperature b/c it seemed really hoy. She replied that it was 60° and reluctantly offered to make another one, as the pastry member smiled over apologetically saying that she was sorry, she forgot to tell her. The barista proceeded to make the second flat white by tossing cold Alpro oat milk angrily into a cup and tossing espresso in there and handing it to me. The worst cup of cold flat white I have ever had been served with one of the worst attitudes I have ever seen. When I began to question the way it was made, the barista shot back the manual of instructions for how she had made my flat white. Of course, I left as she bid me a nice day. Perfect ending. The feta pastry was ok, the brioche was ok but the mascarpone filling was pretty bad (chunky texture and no taste). The place looks cool, but there is no soul and no love in the products and the service in my case was as...
Read moreI’ve been a pretty frequent visitor of Lady Babka. The place has a nice vibe inside, the coffee is good, and since I live nearby I often grab coffee and pastries to go.
Today, however, I had a very unpleasant experience with their NO LAPTOP POLICY.
After work, I had 15 minutes before a meeting and decided to order a cheesecake to take away and a coffee to drink inside. While waiting for my order, I sat down in a quiet corner and briefly opened my laptop to check new flat listings on Idealista.
As soon as the waitress brought my coffee, she repeatedly told me like 5 times, that laptops are not allowed, showing me a tiny sign that was placed only on one big table. I explained politely that I wasn’t planning to work there - just a quick 10-minute check while I’m having my coffee. Still, she insisted that absolutely no laptop use is permitted, even for a short glance.
Honestly, in 2025 it feels absurd to prohibit customers from even briefly opening a laptop, especially when it’s clearly not about working for hours. I ended up closing it and checking from my phone instead, but the whole exchange felt unpleasant.
I do understand that cafés want to avoid people turning tables into co-working spaces, but this was handled in an inflexible and unfriendly way. After this experience, I don’t think I want to continue coming here, not even...
Read moreI’m sorry to say that their staff are discriminatory and unprofessional. My friend and I walked in because their sandwiches looked good. We were actually really looking forward to trying their food and coffee, but we were treated so poorly that we left. There were FOUR staff members just standing at the counter and not one of them bothered to attend us. After about 10 minutes of just waiting, we asked them if they had tables available, they said they’d check, but no one bothered to get back. While we were just standing and waiting, a white woman walked in and they attended to her immediately. Keep in mind, we’re two women of colour, so the difference in how we were treated was SHOCKING. Never experienced such poor treatment from any cafe or restaurant I’ve been to in my several years living in Barcelona. There are plenty of non-discriminatory cafés on Enric Granados that I would rather give my money to.
Also, I’ve seen that there are multiple negative reviews also critiquing how the staff treated potential customers, so this seems to be a recurring pattern. The owner or whoever is replying to these reviews seems to just gaslight anyone leaving a negative review instead of accepting the feedback and training their staff to be better, just shameful. I hope you actually treat this as the serious...
