This was our final dinner in Barcelona, and unfortunately we were left disappointed despite the high reviews on Google. Also, this is two restaurants in one, the other being Cheri. They share the same kitchen and chefs.
We opted for the set menu at 35 euros each. This included four tapas which were huge, a paella for two, and a simple dessert. Considering the serving size and quality of ingredients, we thought this was very reasonably priced.
We enjoyed all the tapas we ordered, which were: croquettes (8.6/10), fried squid (8.1/10), fried anchovies (6.9/10) and mussels (7.4/10).
The Paella we were most looking forward to was a very promising dish. It had a strong depth of flavour - you could even taste the seafood broth it was slowly cooked in, there was some crust on the pan to enjoy, and it wasn’t too wet nor too dry. However, it was incredibly salty that it overwhelmed the other deep flavours. While we found Spanish food to be saltier than our preference, this was as if a table spoon of salt was added - I’m not sure if it was a bad batch or this was how the chef intended it to taste. It was so salty that we could not finish it (and we hate being wasteful with food) and marred our dining experience. We left our feedback with the waiter. The dessert was very simple - it was an assortment of pineapples with some sort of cream, biscuits and chocolate balls.
The service was great; attentive, polite and friendly, and the venue was very nice, akin to a fine dining restaurant imo. Overall, could have been a highlight but turned out to be a...
Read moreIt was a memorable and fantastic experience across the board. Greeted by who I assume was the manager, really kind, welcoming and spoke great English which was a relief. He gave us a lovely spacious table within a nouveau-riche style interior which was breathtaking! I had a glass of white wine and my partner ordered beer, which was arrived swiftly. We saw the set menu for 35€ which seemed really appealing, especially for the price. To start, 2 tapas each which was patatas bravas, mussels, jamon and squid. All tasty, came out super hot and quick. The patatas bravas was presented uniquely- the potatoes were incredible and so flaky!! We shared the seafood paella and at this point we were getting full! Again super tasty and we were checked on to make sure it was good, drinks topped up, all great service by everyone who worked there. We finished with a dessert surprise!! We were worried it would be heavy but it wasn't! It was a trio of mochi truffles, pineapple with creme caramel and biscotti-style biscuits- all fabulous and each had a different tang which complimented each other. I went to the toilet and returned to complimentary cocktails from the manager! How kind!! To be honest, this was the only place where as British tourists, we felt welcome in Barcelona and we were so grateful. As the bill was entirely reasonable, we tipped well and I shook hands with the manager. You made our holiday special and it was the best restaurant we have been to all week. Thank you,...
Read moreDon't be fooled by this restaurant's super-high rating. Being a Barcelona local and seeing this super highly rated tapas restaurant I hadn't seen before, I wanted to try it with my friend; I should have been more careful.
Unfortunately, there's no Secret Tapas restaurant to be found, and it is operated by a restaurant called Chéri, which has a much lower/normal rating. Promoting a restaurant like this is scammy, and qualifies it as a tourist trap for me, considering the steep prices.
I can't complain about the restaurant and our overall experience. The food was tasty, the wine was good, the service was super attentive, and the vibe was cool. However, it's not a tapas restaurant, there aren't enough tapas on the menu. Plus, you'll get the same or better quality food elsewhere for much more...
