I recently visited Salts in Barcelona, and while the food itself was impressive — fresh, well-executed, and clearly made with care — the overall experience was overshadowed by the restaurant’s seating system.
At busy times, guests are expected to find their own tables, which might sound casual and relaxed in theory, but in practice, it creates a tense and slightly chaotic atmosphere. With no structured system — no host, no queue, no reservations — it unintentionally encourages people to act competitively, even selfishly. Tables are claimed aggressively, people hover awkwardly, and the entire vibe shifts from social to survival mode.
It felt like the setup itself was forcing guests into behaviors they might normally avoid — grabbing seats quickly, ignoring others, acting on a “me first” instinct. Not because they’re bad people, but because the system doesn’t leave much room for courtesy or cooperation.
This took away from what could have been a calm, enjoyable dining experience. I genuinely believe the food and ambiance deserve a more thoughtful structure. A simple fix — like a waitlist, host stand, or even timed reservations during peak hours — could change everything.
To sum up: fantastic food, cool atmosphere, but the unstructured seating policy during rush hours was a major drawback. Salts has a lot of potential — I hope they tweak the system to match the quality of...
Read moreCame here with my boyfriend for tapas and sangria. I ordered spinach and pine nut croquettes (vegetarian), but out of the 4 I was served, one was an Iberian ham croquette. When I pointed out their mistake, the waitress kept saying “but you ate it” — as if I could have known before biting into it. They all look identical, there was no way to know until I had already taken a big bite (they’re small, bite-sized tapas). I had to insist to get a replacement, which should have been offered immediately, and when it finally arrived it was just dropped on the table without a word or apology.
The sangria was good and the view is nice, but the food was average (my boyfriend’s chicken fingers were cold) and the service was absolutely awful. Would not return and do...
Read moreAmazing views over Barcelona. A random find.
We were heading towards the cable cars to get an elevated view of the city and heard music, which led us to Salts! Walking in you look over a diving pool (build for the Olympics) and a wonderful view from up high.
You don't have to get a drink at the bar - you could probably just go to look at the view or sit on the plastic seats like a sports spectator.
The bar serves beer and radler on tap, wine (not great) spirits and soft drinks (also food but did not try). Seating is along the top, above the spectator platform, with heaters (we went first week in December).
Nice vibe with music (loud enough to hear, low enough to enjoy a conversation). Fantastic views, we saw the sun set and day turn to night...
