Exorbitant Charges for Ice? A Questionable Decision
PROS: The coffee is excellent, very meticulous with each order. Pastries are tasty and high quality. Baristas are friendly. Good music, only the seats are a little uncomfortable, but that is understandable considering how some remote workers can outstay their welcome.
CONS: I was quite surprised to find that they charge an unusually high fee for adding ice cubes to beverages. 1€ to be exact!! This means if you want a coffee for 3€, you will pay 4€ instead if you want ice. So 3-4 ice cubes is a 25% mark-up.
While I understand that every establishment has its own pricing strategy, charging excessively for something as simple as ice cubes raises questions about the café's overall value proposition. Ice is generally considered a standard offering at most food and beverage establishments, and the fee imposed by TheMiners significantly deviates from this norm, especially in Spain. I have experienced cocktail bars in NYC charging this amount for extra large craft ice cubes where the oxygen has been removed to slow the melting process.
This pricing strategy not only affects the perception of value but also undermines the overall customer experience, again especially considering the neighborhood. I hope the management will reconsider this decision and align their pricing more closely with industry standards.
CONCLUSION: Wonderful place, avoid ordering drinks with ice if you want are on a budget or want to repeat with...
Read moreGreat ritual I had for a few days spent working in Barcelona, to grab my coffee here on my way to the office. Nicely decorated and quiet space to sit inside, the coffee tastes divine (with some sweets selection as well) and the staff was very kind, one of the days the had an issue with the machine and my coffee was missing a few sips, they offered it on the house, I had paid already so I didn’t take it but I find that is a nice gesture showing appreciation to their costumers and a more strategic move for longer term clients, instead of just immediate gain. They have ceramic cups to sell as well with beautiful...
Read moreI had an unfortunate experience at Miners Coffee in Poblenou. The staff (a young lady) was extremely unfriendly, communicating in Russian (btw: go back to your country!) despite my attempts to speak Spanish or English, which felt unwelcoming. There was also a noticeable lack of product knowledge, making it difficult to make informed purchases. Additionally, the quality of the decaf capsules I bought was very poor. Overall, despite my respect for the founder, I find it hard to recommend this café based on my experiences.
PS: Not trying to hurt your business with this review. I'll...
