Zed — Restaurant in Barcelona

I am close to tears writing this review, knowing that I will be returning to my home, where this restaurant is not. 10000/10. My family and I came later in the evening. The restaurant feels like home when you step in, and when you take a bite of the food…..SPEECHLESS!! My mom closed her eyes and hugged herself. The service was great. Everyone was super sweet, including the chef, who we had to refrain from kidnapping because the food was spectacular. I had the lamb stew for a main, and the mascarpone mousse for dessert. The lamb stew had such depth of flavor, I truly can not put it into words. It was delicious. The mascarpone mousse was a perfect ending. I also tried my family’s food. Equally delicious. Everything was so balanced in flavor and lacked for NOTHING, and we all could not stop picking up our spoon. Visited Zed in the evening. Waited about 5 minutes at the counter before someone came to meet us, although we counted only two tables with guests seated. We ordered a cheese plate, and while the cheese was good - we received old cold bread with it, which was disgusting. The soup was merely warm and tasteless, the carrot mousse was ok, but again with cold bread, meat stew had a taste, but it was like it was combined from separate parts, not cooked together: not-so-stewed vegetables, watery sauce, white coloured stewed meat not filled with the sauce and taste. Fresh homemade pasta was a combination of overcooked macs and over-peppered sauce again with the feeling that everything was put together for the first time only on the plate. Service was slow, we waited here and there for 5-10 minutes just to receive the next tasteless dish. At the end we shared our thoughts with the waiter and manager (not that they could not see it from almost full plates we gave back from the table), had our "sorry", but the bill stayed the same. Reservations recommended especially on a weekend! Food was great and served quickly, croquettes were done really well as the batter was thin yet crispy and also well seasoned. Theres a choice of sweet potato with cheese, or beef, one serving is of 4 pieces and the staff kindly suggested we may select 2 pieces of each kind which allowed us to try both of the different flavours! In my opinion the sweet potato was tastier than the beef as there was a good contrast of flavour and texture. Also ordered Beef Tongue and it was tasty too but felt like it was perhaps overly tenderized from the marinades which left the meat a little too soft and mushy for my preference. Also ordered Bone Marrow, and Squid Tagliatelle. Perhaps its a norm in Barcelona where pasta in general arent served Al dente. Strong flavours but just missing the bounce from an Al dente pasta which made the dish slightly disappointing because the Squid pieces were also really soft, and thus the dish lacked bite since everything was on the mushier side as a whole.
