Bar Meritas — Restaurant in Benidorm

Frosty and unpleasant service by the lady who served us ( the owner I think) and we had to wait nearly an hour for our simple food with no apology. My colleague and I were very disturbed by our experience at this bar/ restaurant. We were working locally so dropped by for lunch on two separate occasions. Never again. The first time it was a frosty service too and we had to wait 45 minutes but the food was ok and I wouldn't have left a bad review. I very rarely ever do. The second day we visited, we honestly got such an unwelcoming vibe that we nearly walked out but there aren't any other restaurants nearby. On this second occasion we were in more of a hurry so we told her this and asked about the quickest dishes on the menu. The lady coldly told us there were two orders ahead of us. We ordered toasted sandwiches and thinking with only two orders ahead that this wouldn't take long. 30 minutes later my colleague tried to speed things up by gently enquiring and paying the bill in advance. Almost an hour later the two toasties still hadn't arrived. When I politely pointed out that we were in a hurry and had been waiting an hour, the lady was angry rather than apologetic, she denied it was an hour and even claimed that one of our toasties was an item on the menu that took the longest. An hour for toasted sandwiches? With only two other tables? The food was decent when it arrived but this lady's spiky unpleasantness made the whole experience disturbing and we were very late...

My previous visit to Benidorm was in August 2018, and one day on my walk back from the cross I had planned to call at Meritas Bar, but August is the month they don’t open during the day! So I promised myself that I would visit again on my next visit.

I decided to come back in May this year when it should be a bit cooler than August....... except there is currently a heat wave in Benidorm!! So my original plan of getting a taxi up to the Cross, and then walking back down and calling at Meritas was scrapped (as it is way too hot for me). I still made it to the bar today :-) . Having seen the reviews on here and photos on Facebook, I knew what I was going to have and I was definately not disappointed!

Been here many times before and it’s been perfect, on this occasion the lady who was serving drinks and food was very rude to my family, everything we ask was a bother , must admit food is wonderful and it’s beautiful views , feel the lady is in the wrong job or needs some customer service help , very disappointed, feel the man who is there needs to be out front as never had a problem and always polite even if there is a wait on food...
