ARVO Specialty Coffee (cerrado hasta el 22 de dic) — Restaurant in Bilbao

Went with high expectations but in the end isn’t anything new, original or extremely tasty. Taste speaking they serve tostadas bread with or without “an egg” you don’t really know what you’ll get! It’s not a poached egg, nor a hard boiled one, and even not a “œuf mollet”. But I can understand you don’t want define yourself, till there I can understand, but when you ask for a bit of milk foam for a baby and you get answered after a few seconds speechless “oh actually the barista it’s not happy with this kind of requests as he got in crisis”….I can get you a bit of milk, just milk. No thank you, no drama, no milk, no customer satisfaction, no nothing, this place does not deserve his attention and queue to get in and wait 5 minutes before being asked your order, 20 minutes after getting your specialty coffee (not the only one in bilbao, nor the best tasted sofar) and with this sense of drama all around the staff! When there were some seats left, I was the only one person who were not allowed to be inside, they had a rope to block me: i have never thought any different at the beginning, just as any busy cafe, so instead of sitting inside I adjust myself to the authoritarian cafe to just order for take out. I had to order at the door outside, standing, so I sit outside to wait. At that point, I noticed some blond people could go inside. And I was the only Asian person not allowed to come in. They told me it is their rules that they don’t let people in. But again I was the only person stayed outside. Finally I asked why I was the only person who could not stepped into their establishment, a lady said “go ahead you can go pick up your cafe!” as if I was disturbing her work. Nice cafe, part of the only few vegan places you can find in Bilbao for that type of coffee shop/breakfast/brunch vibe. Only 4* though as nothing special, I won’t remember the food as the highlight. Portions are quite small (although prices are quite low as well), would recommend to share an additional dish for 2 for example. Quite odd also they were very strict about their menu, I asked if I could add some eggs/mushrooms to a toast and they said no it was impossible, when you could add those options to another toast on the menu… didn’t fully understand but hey.

Apart from that, waiters are nice and attentive, you are served pretty quickly and the atmosphere is really nice. Customers are taking their time there, and they won’t rush you - people were reading books at the “busiest” time when there was a pretty long queue of people waiting outside. Walk in only.
