🌟 An Unexpected Gem in Bilbao – A Feast for the Senses at Restaurante Larruzz! 🌟

We stumbled across Restaurante Larruzz purely by chance while wandering Bilbao with a quick google search which turned up glowing reviews, so we gave it a try with no expectations. We didn’t need a booking as there were enough tables free but you might need to book to sit outside! And WOW. What an absolute delight!

From the very first bite to the final sip, everything was simply gorgeous. The dishes were not only beautifully presented but incredibly generous, you definitely won’t leave hungry. Every plate was a burst of flavour, clearly made with care and pride.

The service? Exceptional. Despite a little language barrier at the start because we do not speak one word Spanish (sorry), the warmth and attention we received more than made up for it. Our waitresses were kind, patient, and genuinely wanted us to have the best experience. And Rakel — what a star! She went above and beyond, ensuring we had everything (and more) to take drinks with us on our up coming boat trip afterwards. It felt like being looked after by friends who really know how to host.

During my stay in the wondrous city of Bilbao, I planned on having a meal at Larruzz. I identified this restaurant by researching on Google Maps. The reviews were good, so I thought I'm going there! I didn't make a reservation before my visit, but luckily I was able to get a table. The staff who served me were very friendly and helpful. The service I received was excellent. I ordered 3 dishes. A really tasty starter. The main course of crayfish and prawn paella 🥘 was so tasty. I had a lemon 🍋 sorbet to cleanse my palate after I finished my main course plus a double espresso to keep me awake ⏰️. I was expecting a bill over €60 as I didn't look at the prices, but I was shocked when it was only €43 including a beer too! That's such good value for such a nice restaurant right by the river. The restaurant is well appointed too, and the decor top notch. I'd say, if you enjoy good food at reasonable pricing, then pay Larruzz a visit if you are in Bilbao, you won't be...

I'm super surprised that this place has 4 stars. It deserves max 1. Terrible experience in terms of quality of food and service versus price. I ordered a tuna steak and asked for medium. It was as dry as Sahara desert, super flat and hopelessly tasteless. I told the waitress that the fish must have been old or frozen and she told me that no, the fish was fresh. They buy fresh fish in bulk at the market and then freeze it. Totally makes sense, how could I not think of that! That was a pretty interesting definition of fresh fish that cost me 15 euros.
