Burgos is one of Spain's more beautiful provincial capitals, famed for its stunning gothic Cathedral, the history of 'El Cid' and the Way of Saint James that runs through the city. Pilgrims and tourists alike will always find excellent food with the local style of blood sausage (with rice) and roasted baby lamb leading any list.
La Favorita is by far the best choice for food that never disappoints. Many tourists head to the restaurants surrounding the Cathedral but I always shy away from establishments geared to tourists. The dead giveaway is that the menu is in five languages and someone stands outside trying to get you to come in. La Favorita doesn't need anyone to do that, it is always busy.
Apart from wonderful fresh fish brought in that morning, extraordinary grilled steaks done to perfection there are also award-winning tapas that amaze with their creativity. The service is fabulous and all the locals cozied up to the bar are a true guarantee of quality.
La Favorita has an impressive wine list with a great selection by the glass from the nearby Ribera del Duero region as well as the rest of Spain. Dry vermouth has become very popular with the locals. Try Vermut 'Golfo' from Cillar de Silos on the rocks with a spritz of soda and lemon. While you're at it try a glass of Cillar de Silos Crianza. You can't go wrong in Burgos with La Favorita and great wine. The perfect...
Read moreThis is an incredible venue, out front is a cracking tapas bar, great food, wines and beers, with a really lively atmsphere and welcoming staff. The olive skewers are absoluely amazing, highly recommended. Also the local wines taste great. Tucked in the back room is a rather pleasant dining room, it was quiet and early when we ate here. The staff were excellent, English menus aren't available in the restaurant but they can be found online. We made our order and the staff were excellent at making food recommendations. Even going so far as to suggest that a full portion of chorizo would be a lot, and recommended a half portion, he was totally correct. The main of grilled pork neck was sensational, tender and flavourful, I've never had pork that tasted this good before. My wife had a tuna salad, simple but with amazing flavours. We were recommended a local wine, with paired perfectly and tasted amazing. Pudding was local cheese cake (no photos, it tasted too good), it was absolutely amazing. This is a place I would highly recommend, both the tapas ar and the main restaurant are excellent and...
Read moreWhile visiting northern Spain it was our intention to try a variety of tapas venues.
While the two dishes we tried at La Favorita were tasty, we sadly were unable to try more. This was primarily because staff were more focused on their local customers, rather than assist two international guests that they’ll never see again.
We appreciate that we walked in at a busy time of the evening and that we are not native speakers, however our experience might have been more pleasant and effective if there were signs next to the tapas so customers could know what they are hoping to choose - this would save everyone from frustration, particularly due to language challenges.
Unless you are a fluent native speaker, I suggest visiting during a quieter time when staff assistance might be more...
