LA TORTILLA TEX-MEX BARRI VELL — Restaurant in Girona

Go somewhere else! Exorbitant pricing, being the only customers at prime time lunch hour (14:30), and pictures on the menu with English translation were screaming TOURIST TRAP but I was craving 'tex mex' and we wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Also, I'm willing to pay the luxury price for fulfilling the occasional craving. DON'T make our mistake: €53 for two overly sweet margaritas, 4 beef hard shell tacos aka 'dorados' (which ended up being taquitos I could buy at the grocery store, minus the lettuce as described on the menu), a veggie quesadilla aka 'gringa' which I settled for because they could not substitute cheese or veggie enchiladas, and a side of rice and beans (which ended up being practically a spoonful of each in appetizer dipping/sauce bowls). Also, NO customizations (i.e. requested cheese enchiladas instead of meat enchiladas, and asked for 2 chicken and 2 beef "tacos" but were told we could only have all beef or all chicken) which suggests pre-prepared or frozen or store-bought food or simply an unwillingness to satisfy the customer all of which are unacceptable for these prices. We had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. Craving Mexican dishes, we chose this nearby spot, and we’re glad we did. The staff greeted us warmly and attended to us promptly, even though we arrived at an inconvenient time. After a short wait of about 10 minutes, our food arrived, served by a charming Mexican grandma who could only speak Spanish—this added an authentic touch that raised our expectations, and the meal did not disappoint.

The restaurant has limited indoor seating, but the outdoor courtyard offers plenty of tables, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. The only minor downside was that the braised pork was a bit dry, which might have been due to our late-night arrival. Overall, a delightful spot for authentic...

Three days later and I'm still mad about this place. Honestly some of the worst and most overpriced food I have ever eaten. Insipid €10 nachos that were largely tasteless and rubbery. The pork in the tacos was chewy and old, with an unpleasantly earthy taste. I refused to eat more than a few bites, which is rare for me, and it's lucky I did as they gave my partner a terrible night.

I don't understand why they have so many good reviews???? We ate here off the back of that and were bitterly disappointed.
