La Cantina Mejicana — Restaurant in Granada

I do not dish out 5* reviews like sweeties but this was a genuine 5* place.

It was fun, the staff were super-friendly and most importantly the food was so fresh, so tasty and the food prep area was in full view if the seating area and was very clean.

We had a salad, fajitas and fried stuffed jalapeños. The salad was large and full of fresh avacado, varied leaves and tomato. The peppers had different cheeses inside and were simply delicious with a bit of heat, but not overwhelming.

When our fajitas arrived I was a very happy man. It was served on a sizzling hot griddle, smokey and sticky with an aroma of spices and herbs. The chef... Yes the chef brought out a selection of sauces and lined them up in order of chilli heat with the hottest being Sierra Nevada 'Inferno' ; challenge accepted hombre! There was a selection of 6 different sauces and pickles to put on the fajita. All of them were home made, rustic and full of flavour.

We had a lot of fun at this slightly tucked away Mexican restaurant in Granada. The atmosphere is cool and colourful, with a Día de los Muertos style display out front. Inside, expect tables over two levels and loads of bright colours.

The margaritas - oh my goodness. They were so good, my boyfriend couldn't stop ordering them 😅 he doesn't usually like cocktails that much so it was awesome to see.

They give you some complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning, which is a nice touch. The menu had a great variety of what you'd expect, from tacos and burritos to quesadillas, nachos and chimichanga.

I found the portions to be generous and reasonably priced, and the ingredients fresh and flavourful. I wasn't totally blown away by my mushroom quesadilla, but it was still tasty and my boyfriend loved his enchilada.

But the best thing was the staff. They were so nice and friendly, and focused on our having a fun Friday night. Mission accomplished! If back in Granada, we'll certainly...

Por un lado señalar los aspectos positivos: el ambiente es agradable, la decoración muy adecuada y divertida; es un sitio limpio, el servicio es rápido,la comida es abundante y el cóctel de fresa estaba muy rico

Sin embargo, no nos llevamos una grata experiencia debido a diversos factores:

El primero de ellos era la calidad de la comida. Más bien la falta de ella: Los jalapeños son los del Mercadona, la carne no es demasiado buena y en general no creo que aporte el toque mexicano que promete.

En segundo lugar, el precio debido a lo anterior es algo alto. Es cierto que los lugares ambientados en comidas foráneas suelen incrementar el precio pero en este caso no lo vale.

En tercer lugar, y quizá el punto más relevante es el servicio. Poco profesional y nada formal. El camarero no supo aconsejarnos correctamente acerca de los ingredientes de los platos y directamente le cogió el movil a mi amigo para responder.

Además, la camarera que nos sirvió los platos lo hizo con poco cuidado y prácticamente me interrumpió bruscamente mientras hablaba con mis amigos para colocar el plato a mi lado sin cerciorarse de que era mío o introducir un "¿disculpe, es esto para usted?" -o similar-. Más tarde, al retirarlos no preguntó si podía llevárselos todos, aún quedando comida en ellos y aunque dos de nosotros sí había finalizado, uno de mis amigos se quedó mirando como le apartaban el plato con lo que aún quería terminar de comerse. Por último, una de las porciones la pedimos para llevar y vimos como, sin ninguna medida de higiene, a mano descubierta, cogía los alimentos y los enrrollaba en papel de aluminio.

En general, no repetiría ni lo aconsejo. Creo que hay otros con un precio-calidad más acorde y donde sentirse más cómodos disfrutando de verdadera...
