Walking past Cafe Madagascar numerous times, its buzzy ambiance and the mix of locals and tourists always caught my eye. Situated in the heart of Ibiza Town, this spit and sawdust cafe, with its expansive terrace and closely set tables under a generous sun canopy, finally lured my friends and I in for an impromptu lunch.
The cafe's undeniable popularity spans across all nationalities, busy with groups and families at any given time. The menu, vast beyond expectation, hinted at a kitchen strategy more reliant on efficiency than artisanal culinary tools. Micro-meals, anyone?…
Choosing pizza, avocado on toast, and a side of pan y olioli, I harbored concerns about meeting my American friends' high pizza standards. To our collective surprise, each dish was not only palatable but genuinely enjoyable. The affordability of our meal added a pleasant touch to the experience.
Service at first seemed brusque, yet it quickly became evident that this was simply the waiter's unfiltered demeanor—a person who, despite the workload, could easily share a laugh or smile, offering sincere and self-deprecating responses to any mishaps. His dedication and efficiency were remarkable, and after the seemingly abrasive greeting, I warmed to him as our meal progressed - and seemingly he to us.
Cafe Madagascar is a straightforward, no-frills establishment. Knowing this, visitors can set their expectations accordingly and are likely to find themselves more than satisfied with the drinks, food, service, and pricing. It's a place where the simple joy of dining can lead to unexpected friendships, reinforcing the cafe's inadvertent role as a vibrant, communal hub in Ibiza Town (if you want quiet time, sneak in at the very...
Read moreIt was one of my favourites cafe places in Ibiza but since they've changed some of the staff members I won't comeback neither recommend this place anymore. Service became pour, both waiters don't bring the drinks in a proper time(30min+ each) and sometimes you get double, because thinking on 'maybe after 30min of waiting they forget to make the order' and you have to ask again to another waiter so at the end you get double drinks smh. Plus they are rude, specially the brazilian one, who, on my last visit, became aggressive towards me and my friend when we wanted to pay our drinks separately and started swearing at her. Also the guy at the counter who started to back him up. I remember now at a previous visit there that same brazilian was rude to another friend who wanted to move a chair to our table (we were 2) and yelled at him. It's a shame because the place has a great location and gets crowdy with a good environment but with staff like that I won't...
Read moreShocking service from the waiter. Bad manners, wouldn't acknowledge us verbally (just gestures or grunts), no "please" or "thank you". Only one waiter for the entire outside area. Took a while for him to serve us as we couldn't see anyone for the first 10 minutes. The food was average, "tostadas" were on panini bread with supermarket quality jamón serrano and cheese. Coffee and orange juice were ok. Food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. The final prices did not appear in the menu (e.g. jamón serrano had a different price as ham but this want reflected in the menu, same for natural orange juice). Still the prices were standard for the area and the setting was nice...
