Mesón El Regreso — Restaurant in Málaga

We visited this charming local restaurant as a large family group, including three small children, and had a truly wonderful experience. We were given the entire outdoor space to ourselves, which made it feel cozy and private. (For the first hour, they even turned on the outdoor heaters)

Even with 20 of us (which can easily get chaotic!), the service was consistently warm and friendly. The owner and staff, especially Gilberto, greeted us with smiles and made sure we had everything we needed, without ever being intrusive. Gilberto somehow remembered all our orders without writing anything down—very impressive!

The food was absolutely delicious. Everything we had was fresh, full of flavor, and had a lovely homemade, local touch. There’s a real sense of pride in what they serve.

Traveling from Scotland to Seville we flew via Malaga. 2.5 hours to wait for our train we googled where to eat an came up with Meson El Regreso, so headed there. Up a little side street we found it, very unassuming and still closed, but so glad we spoke to the young girl just setting up the outside area. She calked Gilberto and he offered us a seat. We had bread, olives 5 tapas dishes to share and a lovely bottle of Rioja for 56€. The service was superb. Gilbert could not have done any more, to be of assistance and was very chatty and a great host. Never judge a book by the cover. On our way to the airport, we stumbled upon an excellent restaurant, arriving just before they opened. Despite our early arrival and being pressed for time, the staff welcomed us warmly and went out of their way to accommodate us.

The croquetas were a standout—crispy on the outside with a creamy, flavorful filling that left us wanting more. We also ordered a couple of sandwiches, which were fresh, delicious, and perfectly balanced in taste. Every bite was a delight.

The service was equally impressive. Even though we had to leave quickly, the team made sure we were well taken care of and managed to get everything to us promptly. It was a perfect stop on our way to the airport....
