I didn't see anyone talking about their menu so let me elaborate. It was abit confusing reading reviews because there's kind of 2 menus. One is the tapas plates that are portioned alr. Then there's the seafood menu where everything is priced per 100g. Now what's confusing is that there's seafood in the portioned menu as well
In particular, what they're most famous for is their Gambas plancha which is portioned, for 4€ per portion of 5 pieces. They also do other ala carte prawns, for example tiger prawns and Gambas Rojas(red prawns)
They are very busy even on weekdays, the place was almost 80% filled within 10mins(seems like a lot of regulars)
I heard this is one of the best anchovies and I have to say it was very firm, and the vinegar was sharp. Nothing was too overwhelming, and the fishiness was reasonable esp when eaten with the olives. However for someone not used to eating these fishy things it's quite difficult to finish one plate by myself
The Gambas plancha is what makes them legendary. It's seriously good, some of the prawn head almost tasted like carabinero head. (Although some other pieces of head didn't taste good). The prawn was super tender, with a slight bite and an intense smokiness. There's this particular aroma of salt and smoke which was super heady when people start ordering more and more since the whole restaurant smells like it. The combination of the head and the salt and the smokiness makes this insane. Ask for less salt though, they're abit too generous with the salt.
The bamboo clams were superb too. Super fresh, giving that tender crunchy bite. Drizzled with parsley garlic olive oil which was potent too
One for the books....
Read moreSo this is the first time visiting the restaurants in I am allergic to most seafood. My family though raves about this place and every time they are visiting Madrid they have to go. I went with my sister-in-law and several other friends of hers from University and they could not get enough of the food. The waiters were super kind and the environment was super friendly the only thing I would say is the locale is not the nicest area. I gave the service three stars because unfortunately many times during our lunch on Sunday we had asked for a refill of drinks or a refill of the Bread basket and it took them over 10 minutes and repeating ourselves a couple times before they brought the refills. I wish they would have options for anything else that isn't seafood so that I could enjoy going with my family. All in all we had an amazing lunch and those who were visiting could not stop raving about the great food. There's no way to put it into the questions that they have but we had no wait time because we had reserved two weeks ahead to make sure we had a table so if you are going to be going I highly...
Read moreIn the colourful chaos of multicultural Lavapiés lies a traditional Madrid institution with the best seafood in the barrio.
The Andalusian-style tiles on the walls were hand-painted and made in Spain’s famous ceramics town of Talavera de la Reina, a tiny riverside town in the region of Toledo. The next thing you’ll fail to miss are the crabs displayed on ice – a rare thing to see in Madrid as normally the seafood is kept in a freezer in the back kitchen, and while we’re on: have you ever seen crabs sold fresh in a bar in Madrid? A plancha (griddle) is also front of house, so when you order a ración of seafood by pointing at it on ice, you can watch it get weighed on old-fashioned dial scales, then thrown onto the grill run by owner Pablo, and served up to you within minutes. Fresh, live oysters are also sold here and cost only a fraction above...
