Carrefour Market — Local services in Madrid

I had a particularly unpleasant experience at this store last week, where I was touched by the security guard and double charged for my shopping.

I was completing my regular shop - a few items - and used the self-service checkout. Upon paying, it seems the staff forgot to remove the security tag off one of my items, which then activated the alarm.

To my shock, I was then accosted by a security guard... who grabbed by arm... and proceeded to make a big scene - shouting and drawing the attention of other customers.

He would not calm down.

I was frightened and coerced in to paying a second time.

I returned the next day with a Spanish friend, who explained the situation. The (different) staff then were polite and seemed embarrassed, and checked through their receipts. They asked me to come back after 48 hours to look at refunding the second payment.

I returned, with a Spanish friend, after 48 hours... they told me to come back in 7 days.

I have the double charge on my bank statement... and the receipt. I've also written to Carrefour to ask them to address the issues of 1. The security guard's Unprofessional behaviour and uninvited physical contact (and his need for additional training), 2. The refund for the second payment. This has been to no avail.

I am a big fan of Carrefour - it is our go-to supermarket and we have always had positive experiences across France/Spain.

This Lavapies branch (or perhaps just this security guard) does not fit with the Carrefour that we've always experienced. I would strongly advise any tourists...

I wanted to rate this higher. I experienced amazing olive oil, snacks, tomato sauce, bread, eggs, a wide variety of tasty meats. I also just opened a jar of tomate frito to find mold. I bought it less than 15 minutes ago. My advice check stuff thoroughly before leaving. I do not know if they would honor a return as it is clear it came with mold, but it is late and my wife refuses to let me try. On the other hand they sold me food that had mold. Luckily we caught it before eating it or things might not have been bueno. This was the second jar of tomate frito we bought and the first was soo good it was nearly gone in two days.
