We (a group of 13 exchange students) went to cañas y tapas last night at around 19:00. We were sitting at two of the little tables outside and it was obviously tight but we were okay with that. An hour later, four more people joined us and we politely asked the waiter if we could grab a third table and add it to the two others. He answered, visibly irritated, that if we wanted it, we needed to order more because we were making him lose money - mind you, we were all ordering drinks and there were more than enough empty tables, so we weren’t taking seats away from anyone. For the next two hours, he proceeded to ignore us and made a huge deal out of some of us wanting to pay, because we were paying separately. He made us wait, walked by us, walked away from us mid conversation to take care of other guests. He then (finally!) printed the bill and told us we had to pay together. When we protested, he had our Spanish speaking friends take over the whole addition process instead of simply doing his job. Some of us have worked in restaurants before and we know it can be a trying job, especially if the guests are annoying. But we were a fun, polite group and his attitude was simply shocking. His first comment about us making him lose money immediately made us uncomfortable and, funny enough, is the reason we decided against ordering dinner. Seven of us stayed longer(after he made us pay even though our drinks were still full) and the waiter came back at some point to take two of the three tables away from us lol. His reasoning was, that he needed the tables for other customers. Which was hilarious because there were nine other free tables, we counted them!! It was a very disappointing night, as we were just trying to get to know each other on our first day in Madrid, but his rude and unprofessional behavior definitely gave us something to bond over. As a waiter, talking to guests is part of the job and if you don’t like that, you’re in the wrong business. We usually tip well, but the tip we left him definitely reflected our feelings...
Read moreWe had been waiting for an hour and fifteen minutes for our food, there were still many tables open so we wouldn’t have thought that it would take long and they didn’t mention it in advance. Us and 4 other tables were waiting for AN HOUR before anything came to the table. Once we started asking about 45 min in they said it was on its way. But we still waited for 15 min and after asking some more the first two plates came to the table. Then 10 minutes after the third one came and were still waiting (15+ min) for the last one. We did not like the experience at all. Beside this, we were freezing inside, the doors were wide open and for the waiting hour we were sitting in the...
Read moreThe place is nice and the food is good, the staff is friendly. The problem is that the signs advertised special offers on calamari tapas and beers. When we sat down, they told us the beers were sold out (but only the glass size that had the discount — how strange!). Then, after ordering the calamari sandwich (which was delicious!), they didn’t apply the discount and told us it only applied indoors, not on the terrace. None of this was written on the signs or the menu. It’s a shame because the place is nice and spending a few extra euros isn’t the issue — it’s a matter of principle. I believe in being transparent about prices and not advertising things that aren’t...
