The decor, to say the least, was a 10 if you like the idea of being in the Little Mermaid - really fun and whimsical.
Food - fairly good overall - we had steak you could could on a hot plate - very solid and simple - great cut of meat and flavorful. Not the best in the area, but good. The drinks are all extremely sweet and are served in really cool looking super hero style drink holder but the quality of the same style at a place like Amazonica is far superior. Grilled artichokes were good as well - Pabblo's are far better. Food came almost too quick. I'd recommend training the staff who seemed young/new/disorganized to pace the meal a little bit. Bao buns with beef were huge and good (1 per order - perfect for 2 people) and the food highlight. Edamame also a nice dish and plentiful with a fun sauce. Salmon roll was not great - a bit fishy for me but my wife liked it. Mango Mochi dessert was not mochi and vaguely mango - it was pudding with pop rocks over an egg shaped mushy thing - tasted ok but was not mochi unfortunately.
Challenges: we stood in the sun for a several minutes despite only one other group checking in as the entryway has only space for 2-3 people to stand so you stand outside sweating. the bathroom had nothing to dry your hands with. the server came over after around 10-15 minutes of nobody greeting us (we were on the earlier side by Madrid standards and the place was about 70% full) and said "are you ready to order?" That is not atypical here but we though a hello or something or taking a drink order at a place of this caliber might be nice. as noted above the drinks came after the first apps - ugh - and then all 4 apps came in around 5 minutes so it was all at once and super rushed. then we waited for steak. we never got a bottle of water we ordered and had to get it from another server and then nobody took our dessert order so we had to ask another server again. and when it was time for the check we had to get it from yet another server - never saw the guy who took our order again. 2nd drink got lost too and came as our check arrived.
So sort of not ready for prime time - nice food, amazing decor, has a shot, but teh competition in Madrid is getting great and it would be hard to return with guests or on a date night knowing it was so inconsistent. But it sure is a great place to post...
Read moreI was looking for a special place for dinner where I could impress some guests and this was definitely the spot.
The highlight of this place is definitely the design - flashy colors, beautiful furniture and art decoration and all in all great atmosphere.
Food - generally good, while some dishes were amazing, others were plain. The flamed scallops and potatoes with the truffle sauce were my favorites. Sushi was meh... Lasagna was pretty good, calamari brioch were good but slightly dry, "tiradito" was fresh and tasty and the cheesecake was great.
Cocktails - great flavors and some very interesting combinations. Of course the presentation was top!
Service however wasn't good - it took them a while to come back to get the order, then they completely forgot one of the dishes, and when I reminded them, they acted like nothing happend. They brought it a while after we finished everything (some of the dishes we even ordered in a 2nd round and they arrived before) so it was just a weird waiting of like 10 without any food in the table. No compensation was offered, and not even an apology. Also when they brought the desert, they brought 4 spoons (we were 4 people) but took one away(probably noticed it was dirty). They never came back with the 4th one, even after I asked another server for a spoon when the desert was already on the table. We ended up sharing a spoon for two people - not what I expect when I pay 50 euros for dinner.
It also seems dishes stand and await to be served for some time - saw it when I was near the kitchen, and as you can see from the cheesecake photo, the ice cream was already melting (photo took right after it was served).
Pricing was quite high, for both the food and the cocktails, but I guess it's something to expect from a place that has invested so much in its design. Definitely worth it for a memorable experience, but won't be my go to place.
Value for money 8/10.
I'd love to be back, but would consider it due to the bad service. Maybe just for a...
Read moreOne of the few restaurants which I can safely say, nothing less than a 5 star rating. From start the end, the experience was unforgettable. The concierge was quick in giving us a seat even though we didn’t make a reservation and sat us comfortably in a corner table.
The music in the background was spinned by a live DJ and played all the up and coming tracks that simply made you want to vibe along.
As we got ourselves comfortable, staff were not pressurising us to order drinks and food and all 3 different waitstaff that served us took the effort to joke with us and strike a conversation even though we weren’t locals. The consistency of quality service was there. Even with the extremely heavy plates, the technique to hold the dishes were carefully trained to the staff.
Location was super convenient near city centre and very easily accessible.
Food wise: Aesthetically, needless to say, was beyond my wildest expectations, not something I will frequently come for, but definitely a must try for tourists like myself. Taste was not lacking, Fish Tacos were flavourful and didn’t have a fishy taste or smell, paired with the vegetables and sauce well. Truffle Risotto was delicious! The texture was a little out of the ordinary, like pasta. Calamari Brioche - the bread was decent but the calamari was so fresh, I had to order one more to make sure I enjoyed it properly. All of the drinks were pleasant and easily consumed even with the strong sour tastes that some drinks had.
Overall, worth and not...
