I've been to a lot of asian restaurants all over the world, some very cheap, some very expensive. Some fine dining, some hipster, some fast-casual...
Dong Feng is my favorite Chinese place I've been to. The food is well made and tasty, the prices are reasonable, and the staff is incredibly welcoming.
Offering a more elevated dining experience and atmosphere, at fast-food takeout prices, Dong Feng's understated exterior belies a well-executed, simple, classy interior. The staff are attentive and courteous, and I've been offered - or perhaps, more accurately, compelled - to endulge in a free dessert, tea, or shot of alcohol on the house nearly every time I've been. I wouldn't go expecting it, but the fact that they do it at all is a great show of the hospitality of the owners.
I've had a few selections from their menu, and I can report that everything I've had has been good. Some things have been amazing, and some have been just "good", but nothing has been bad. Everything has been well executed, and most of the variance might be down to preference.
Have I had better meals at other asian places? Maybe a time or two. Have I had better atmosphere, or a more elevated experience? For around ten times the price, yeah, sure - though would hope so at that point. Have I had better hospitality, or experienced better staff. Never.
So Dong Feng might not blow your mind. It might not be the greatest Chinese food you've ever eaten in your life. It might not feel like you're in a fine dining experience with your every whim being catered to.
What it will be is a wonderful experience, in a classy but casual atmosphere, with tasty and well priced food, with the most welcoming staff I've ever met.
So that's it. It's right in that sweet-spot. So much so that it's probably on my "if you're in Madrid you gotta try..." list. Go here, I promise you won't be...
Read moreAbsolutely amazing experience at Dong Feng! The food was incredibly delicious — every dish was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. You can really tell they put care into what they serve. The service was top-notch as well — super friendly, attentive, and welcoming.
What really stood out was their generosity. Not only did they offer us free chupitos at the end of our meal, but they even left the bottle on the table so we could help ourselves — such a nice touch that made the whole night feel extra special.
The reviews don’t lie — this place is a solid 10/10. Can’t wait to come back next time we...
