I was so desperate to get something to eat past 10 PM in Madrid. Surprisingly most fast food joints were closed. I went to three different restaurants - one closed for private party, two others were closing kitchen in less than 30 minutes. I happened upon El Madroño, which more and more felt like a tourist trap.
I did visit on a cold night in November 2023, and I did sit outside. This should not be the reason that food is served cold! I ordered oxtail, which came with potatoes. The server recommended this dish. It was tasty, but cold food is not pleasant. I don't normally do this, but I asked the server to heat it up. When he came back, the oxtail was lukewarm and the potatoes were cold. Other menu items were not worth mentioning.
They do have a great location though. During the dinner, some entertainers were playing music and rapping in Spanish asking patrons for money. The meal was over $60 USD for two people. I won't be...
Read moreWas waiting to ask for a table, was waiting quietly as the guy working there kept walking past us. After 5 minutes we tried to talk to the hostess as he was walking by. The guy mumbled something in spanish angrily and kept walking. After a few minutes he sat a group of 4 who came after us at a table of 6. Then told us it is not possible to sit 6 people. (We would even have settled for two tables of 3… but the guy was not open for a conversation). I wasted 15 minutes outside the restaurant that could easily be saved (and clear me from the path), if you would just be courteous enough to give me 3 seconds of your time. Also, even if the restaurant is fully booked there is no need to be rude. Very bad experience - would recommend a refresh in the...
Read moreVery bad experience!!! we were 5 people, had 1 plate of jamón (ham), 1 of Manchego cheese, peppers, croquetas and some wine ...and a bill of 120 euros!!! The food was not bad but definitely not even close to worth the price... The waiter was very insistent - he wanted us to order the 'famous' oxtail, also after the 5th time i.told him we were more interested in tapas (fingerfood) he went on making us feel bad for not ordering it. There's a difference between being suggesting local specialties and annoying your customers... So, just go somewhere else - there are many better opportunities in the...
