Unfriendly service caused by miscommunication by the restaurant lack of advertisement. We booked a table for 13:30, when we showed up, we are told that the kitchen only offers the menu of the day. This is acceptable and we kindly tell the waiter that we are not interested. To this the formerly kind waiter told us that he could have reserved our table for someone else. In this very moment he took the establishment's incompetence and put it on our shoulder. Why are there no Matilda Café Website informing patreons of the lack of food on the weekend? Why weren't we, as costumers, told that menu of the day was the only option when we phoned them? We were looking forward for a good experience but was met with rudeness and impoliteness. This is not the spanish charm any tourists nor spanish person wants. 0 stars...

It is a very cosy place an people enjoyed the food they where eating. Unfortunately we where invisible for the guy that served for about 10 minutes. He didn't even said hello when we entered or when he passed our table. When we asked him if we can order he looked at us very surprised and he said that we have to wait because we are the last that came. The menu is not printed and he explains it to everyone and serves at the table in chronological order. Only after he finishes with one table (explanation and serving) gets to the next one to say "hi!" and explain the menu. We couldn't event take a drink while waiting... Mabe its worth staying if you are not in a hurry - we had just one hour before heading to...

Fantastic. Tucked away from the main road this little cafe has both amazing food and service. The brioche bread on the sandwiches changed my life. The Tart made me consider moving to Spain simply to eat it everyday. Beyond the outstanding food the owner of the cafe was personable, kind, and efficient. I overheard him tell another patron something along the lines of "the pastries sometimes look imperfect and that's exactly how we like them.". I believe it is a zero waste cafe based on my rudimentary Spanish listening skills. Overall, on a trip filled with wonderful food and beautiful places I will never forget my visit here and cannot encourage you...

Went here because it was on the way for our travel plans, but so far it’s the best thing I’ve eaten! Didn’t realize I had bookmarked it many years ago when I visited. It’s a quaint restaurant/cafe on a small street. We had pan con jamon Serrano, avocado toast on rye bread, huevos patatas, ensalada Matilda, and coffee with soy. Everything was delicious. There was a small wait of 10-15 minutes. The place was full but still the food came out within 10-15 minutes. Very satisfied. Would go again! I overheard breakfast was really good so will try to come back for that! Great service, great food, and very affordable. Highly recommend!

The food and staff, especially Fernando, who we talked to most were amazing. Tasty & filling courses - home recipes. Their menú del día can’t be beat! It was €14 for a starter with bread, main course, dessert, and water/coffee/juice. Highly recommend stopping here, especially if you are visiting any of the nearby museums (for ex. Prado), Retiro Park or gardens, or headed toward Atocha station! I had a chickpea stew starter, butifarra Spanish sausage with potatoes in an olive oil sauce, a zucchini cake, and cappuccino. Vegetarian options are possible, too.

We have been in Europe for 5 days and this was my favourite meal! For 14 €, I ordered soup, main, dessert, beer and coffee. The food was simple, but so delicious. The restaurant has their daily specials written up on the board out front, but they also have a small menu. We decided to eat there just based on the specials so we didn't actually see it though. The service was fantastic! (It's a one-man show, but he is lovely). I honestly can't say enough how happy we were to stumble upon this gem on a side street. I'd give it more than 5 stars if I could.
