The Most Amazing Indian Food! We visited this place as the final meal before we flew back the next morning. It was the only Indian meal we had during our stay and a quick check of nearby places to our hotel – this was one of the closest. There was a little uncertainty as to what we would encounter. The restaurant is perfectly nice and the waiting staff were so friendly and could not be nicer. The lovely owner of the restaurant spent time talking to us and she was an absolute delight. As for the food, we had no expectation – but once seated, we were presented with little papadums and chutneys – which were very nice. Then arrived, without our asking – these delicious little mango flavoured ice cubes on a stick. For our main course, we ordered chicken biryanis, butter naan, the Swaggat mix tandoori platter and lamb curry with rice. There is no other way to put it – but every single item we ordered, was absolutely mind-blowingly delicious. We all agreed, that was the best example of Indian food we have ever eaten! And we have Indian food in many parts of the world. The presentations of dishes immediately told you, this was going to be special – and it was. The biriyani was exploding with flavours, the mix grill was completely out of this world and that was the order of play for every single item we ordered. All four of us agreed. The finishing touch was the most amazing Indian tea we were served - again, have drunk Indian tea all our lives, this was better than any we have had. The owner has spent circa 30 years running the business and it is clear she (and her three chefs) focus very much on taste, flavour and presentation – which sounds elementary, but they absolutely nail it. We will definitely be revisiting when we return to Madrid and our only regret is we found it the last day before we left. A big thanks to the waiting staff, the chefs and the lovely owner. We hope Swaggat will be around for 30 more years.

I would have really, really liked to give this place a perfect 5 but a couple of things - primarily related to the staff and the service bother me. The food - excellent. Truly different and refreshing. The kerala lemon rice was a welcome change. The baingan (eggplant) was also a different preparation from the default baingan bartha. Finally, the chole was not the usual tomato rich sauce, and very tasty. The mishti-doi was lovely (but why they put raspberry sauce on it, i know not). The gulab jamun that came with it was a tad dry. On the whole, a clear winner. Location is convenient and easy to find. The place has a welcoming atmosphere. Service - here's where I have problems. The lady who helped us, outstanding. Friendly, knowledgeable and great to deal with. There were three guys who were not so much. Two of them were sniffing continuously and that madee nervous. One was wiping his nose and handling plates and water bottles. Not great. And then half way through the meal (we were the only people there at 8pm) the three of them stood right next to our table and proceeded to have a loud conversation amongst themselves. They weren't helping us, there was no one else in the place, and we were all the way in the back and on an elevated platform - did they have to have their conclave there? Some training would be well worth it. Oh, and I am not sure why earlier in our meal te same three were busily taping up the air vents on the roof. Like, sheet of paper on the vents, why? A bad twist on a highly recommended and otherwise great restaurant. Do something about it please.

Returning to this restaurant from about two Years ago, this place reminded me of the warmth and delicacy I tasted last time. Given that I was in town for a conference, I decided, To revisit them. First look, I was able to notice that the decor had received an update, the wall of turbans, the chairs etc all looked new and upgraded. We met our friendly host Koshy from Kerala, who had amazing Spanish, Hindi and Malayalam skills, which was nice and made us feel at home. On looking at the menu, found that The food items had also received a super update. We tried out the papdi chaat, was was wholesome and tasty. In the main course we picked the Paneer Tikka Masala [ even though it wasn’t on the menu they made it for us ] and Veg Kofta. Both were made spicy on our request. The Peshawari Naan was refreshing and super tasty that went well with the spicy dishes, and we had sliced chili laden on the garlic naan as well. Overall all the dishes were super tasty, and very Well presented. Again with a cozy smile from Koshy !! The sparkler turned out to be the dessert which was Kulfi in a gaseous smoke and really mind blowing presentation. On eating it was super creamy and satisfying, just the way its Meant to be, nutty, creamy and heavenly. Overall, coming back to Swagath was a “Welcome [which is the literal meaning of the word Swagath]” and “Cozy host Koshy” made all the difference ! If you’re in Madrid, this is the place to be for a good sumptuous mouth watering Authentic Indian Food !!
