What a special place to dine! Thank God we found this restaurant earlier on in our holiday as it gave us the opportunity to return and return. Specialising in Basque cuisine, this I must say is more than a restaurant and going there is not just about filling up after a day's roaming. The food here is made and served with love and the host and staff welcomed us warmly and took care of us like family. There are quite a number of appetizing dishes on offer but we did fall in love with the fish soup (amazing), the Txiangurro (this will last in my memory), the oxtail stew and the baked hake in red king prawn sauce (wonderful). They offer a kids' selection too and our son loved the croquetas al jamon. I loved the fact that they also provide the option of half or full portions for each of their dishes. Quite a selection of wines and for desserts we loved the generous cream puff pastry and the sleek apple pie with icecream. They were also very attentive to our nut and sesame allergies; anyone who suffers from food allergies knows how important this is. The fact that it was full of locals on Friday night says it all; if we lived in Madrid, this is the kind of restaurant I would seek for those special moments or to wind down over a lovely meal and good bottle of wine. Sin duda, un lugar muy especial con personas y un servicio muy amable. We will cherish the memories here and will definitely have to return...
Read moreI am so heart broken by this place because of the manager/ owner Manuel. We came in with a reservation of 5, proceed to our table. 2 of us speaks Spanish, shortly after we ordered our drinks, Manuel came and "warned" us that we were too loud in Spanish. Naturally I didn't understand what he was saying because I don’t speak Spanish, but then the friend translated. I called him over and to apologized even though I didn't think we were loud. The place was very very crowded and every table was taken, everyone was talking at the time, so I wasn't sure why he was picking us out. However I did it because I did not want people to think "Americans were loud." He came back to take our order and instead he YANKED the menus out of our hands and stormed off. It was extremely rude and one of my co workers just said “this is just sad, let’s leave.” My co workers and I decided to leave at the time, my co workers are not from Spain, and they said this is very very common for the Spanish ppl to treat them this way. Manuel was extremely unprofessional and rude to non Spanish customers. Very...
Read moreFirst class basque cuisine in Madrid. This is the sort of place in which you will not find the glamour and glitter of modern restaurants nor you need a reservation months in advance. Here you have outstanding raw material treated with expertise and delicacy and a service that, on top of friendly, makes you feel comfortable. If you are looking for some cocochas, sole, hake or any other fish or if you are a meat lover, this is your place. Do not forget to order your apple pie dessert at the same time when ordering your meal, it takes time to have it done.
Two additional comments, you can order half portions so you can try more dishes. And other, Txakoli is a basque white wine, they have one coming from Alava province that is an absolute must.
A place not to miss, at a...
