Oh my, what a disaster.
My family and I came for lunch and sat outside. It took upwards of 10 minutes to get silverware, napkins, and our drinks ordered. One of the forks had dried food on it - gross! Drinks took another 10 minutes.
Our waitress appeared to be the only one working the 15-or-so tables outside. She spoke no English, and we speak very little Spanish - no big deal, we've successfully worked through that multiple times in Spain. A little bit of menu pointing, some confirming, and we thought we were on the same page. We started to wait.
And wait. And wait. 30 minutes later, an appetizer and just one of the three main dishes came out. Both dishes were wrong. One was the wrong version of what we ordered (and 3 Euro more expensive), the other was a dish totally unrelated to our order. We did our best to communicate this to our waitress. She took both dishes back.
15 more minutes of waiting. Now the waitress seems to be indicating that our order is cancelled. At this point, we're done with this place. We politely told her "no mas", and indicated that we would be leaving.
I'm sure the food is great, but I wouldn't know since I didn't get to eat any. Currently, their service is a mess, seemingly due to severe understaffing. We were also very glad that we sat outside since it was smokey (from the oven) and very hot inside.
There are so many good places to eat in Madrid that it's not worth risking your appetite and money...
Read moreThis is a fine pizzeria in the Argüelles neighborhood of Chamberí in Madrid. This was my second visit in six months, and I like the pizza. But I don’t love it, and I don’t think the quality quite rises to the level of giving it four stars. The crust—so important for good Neapolitan pizza—is average, and some of the toppings could be higher quality (olives, for example). On this visit, I also ordered the burrata as a starter, and it was pretty good. I enjoyed it. But I’ve also had a lot better.
The service was strong—attentive, responsive, and overall quite good. The setting would be good on a comfortable day, I think. It was just too uncomfortable when I was there. (I went pretty early in the afternoon on one of these dangerously hot days in August, so it was still too hot to sit outside, but there’s no air conditioning inside, and that pizza oven is HOT.)
Overall, a reasonably good but not great...
