I was very disappointed with our visit to the Shangrila tonight. I have had lunch and dinner there more than 20 times since they opened and as a general rule have always been happy with the service and the quality of the food. However, tonight was an enormous exception. The server who came to our table didn't seem to be interested in what we wantes to eat. It seemed as as if we were interfering with his free time. I think it's quite normal in European countries when you go to dinner with another person ie 2 people, to expect to receive your respective dishes more or less at the same time. Myself and my partner ordered the same first dish which was a soup and which only one of them arrived and I had to ask for my dish of the same soup after my partner had nearly finished hers. When I complained to the person who seemed to be the supervisor server in the restaurant, he told me that it was not his fault that it was his colleagues fault. I pointed out to him that they all worked in the same restaurant and that I didn't care who brought me my soup as long as somebody brought it. Eventually my soup arrived after my partner had finished hers. However, that was not the end of it. I had ordered a second dish which was different to my partners which also did not arrive. My partner completed eating her second course and I needed to call the attention to the waiter again about the lack of my dish. The person who came to my table seemed to be the supervisor of the restaurant and he apologised for his colleagued negligence. My dish eventually arrived and I accepted the supervisor's apology. The supervisor was kind enough to take off 10% of the total bill, however that was not what I wanted. What I really wanted was to have the dishes served at the right time to the right people without the need to argue with the staff. As I said I have visited this restaurant on many occasions and as the supervisor was so kind as to make apologies and restorations in the final bill, I will give the restaurant one more chance. By the way, the food...
Read moreFrom the very first step inside Shangrila Bar Dimsum Barato, I knew I was in for something special. Nestled in the vibrant heart of Madrid, this place is nothing short of a hidden gem. The moment I entered, I was greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality that immediately made me feel at home.
Let’s start with the food — absolutely divine. Every dim sum dish that landed on our table was a small masterpiece, crafted with love and bursting with authentic flavors. From the delicately steamed dumplings to the crispy golden spring rolls, each bite transported me straight to the bustling food stalls of Hong Kong. The ingredients were fresh, the portions generous, and the flavors perfectly balanced. Their signature pork siu mai and shrimp har gow were standouts, and the house chili oil? An addictive touch of fire.
The service was just as impressive. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and eager to offer recommendations. Their passion for what they do truly shines through every interaction. It’s rare these days to encounter such sincere dedication to guest experience.
Now let’s talk atmosphere. The interior design is a beautiful fusion of modern Asian aesthetics and cozy Madrid charm. Dim lighting, tasteful decor, and soft music created a relaxed and elegant ambiance, ideal for both casual dining and special occasions. I found myself sinking into the moment, losing track of time — and that’s the best kind of dining experience.
Overall, Shangrila Bar Dimsum Barato is more than just a restaurant — it’s an experience. A flavorful journey through Asia, lovingly presented in the heart of Spain. I can’t recommend this place enough. Whether you’re a dim sum enthusiast or just looking to try something new, do yourself a favor and make a reservation. I’ll definitely be coming back again… and again.

Read moreHey there, fellow foodies! Have I got a dim sum tale for you! Our brave adventurer embarked on a culinary journey to a dim sum place that always had a line as long as a dragon's tail. But alas, this time it turned out to be a dim sum-what-went-wrong kind of day. The roasted duck, usually a succulent delight, decided to take a detour and ended up a little dry and not quite as juicy as expected. It's like the duck got lost in the oven and forgot to bring the moisture along for the ride. And oh, the seafood soup! It had all the excitement of a plain bowl of water. No seafood flavor to be found, as if the ocean decided to play a trick and hide all its deliciousness. Sneaky, sneaky! Now, let's talk about the shrimp dumplings. Dry and lacking in shrimp, they were like little dumpling impostors. It's as if someone sprinkled a few breadcrumbs and whispered, "Pretend to be shrimp, little dumplings!" Quite the disappointment for our shrimp-loving friend. But wait, the dim sum disaster doesn't end there. Brace yourself for the worst Xiao long bao ever encountered! Dry on the inside, it was like biting into a dumpling-shaped desert. And the umami? Nowhere to be found. It's almost as if the dumpling forgot its flavorful...
