Quality is not the main reason for coming to this tapas bistro, though the tapas are reasonably delicious. Rather, it's the price-to-quantity ratio that is the winner, and with more than 50 varieties to choose from, you are spoilt for choice. Personally I prefer the hot tapas to the cold ones, though you can expect a little waiting time if you order the former. Beer / wine is decent though nothing fancy. Service is relatively fast. It's a place for a casual meetup with friends. The cosy interiors beckon you to linger around for more wine / beer long after your hunger pangs are satisfied. Or if you are looking for something to snack after that late-night musical (e.g. Lion King), its excellent address along Gran Via and late opening hours make this place a convenient and excellent option!!

This is the second Txapela that we enjoyed while our stay in Spain. We also went into one in Barcelona. Here Jorge was very accommodating with us. We asked for a few things altered on our tapas and he came through. Apparently here in Spain they are not very accommodating (not as much is in the US). This spot was awesome with that. This is also a good place to go if you want to taste different tapas and not break your back. Since we arrived in Spain I wanted to taste the Tortilla Española and I had it here and it was awesome. Jorge was kind enough to warm it up a bit since they are normally eaten at room temperature. I totally recommend this place.

A grandes rasgos, no volvería. Soy de Bilbao y me he decepcionado mucho con este sitio las dos veces que he venido.

This place is in la gran Via which is not easy to miss in this area. There are a lot to tapas bar in the street, but this one is a decent one. I would say the sangria is better than the food, but you have to try some of their tapas. I didn’t care for cold tapas, but the rest was good. The best part was the Nicaraguan bartender that night. She was so friendly and full of life. Thank you for giving us a great experience.

Great place for tapas on the Calle Gran Vía. Although I don’t know much Spanish the waiters understood what I wanted and were very kind. The prices are cheaper than I thought considering the downtown location. Around €3 per tapas dish with a large selection of traditional and non traditional Spanish cuisine. I particularly enjoyed the Tolusa but that might be because I’m an American lol. I would come back again!

The issue I sometimes have eating alone is that the tapas are made to share. At Txapela, they were just the right size for just me. I ordered three (all delicious) with a lemon Fanta. Surprisingly, I was satisfied enough that I didn't want (nor could fit) dessert. I ended my meal with a cappuccino. Nice, casual but polished atmosphere. Staff was friendly and attentive. Prices for food are very reasonable.
