The Tuk Tuk was, beyond a doubt, the most memorable eating experience we had in Madrid, for three reasons:
Firstly, the food was altogether superb. Cooked according to our preferences, I had the good fortune of tasting Tuk Tuk's delightful and sensuous iteration of Thai green curry, whilst my wife - who is Filipino - thoroughly enjoyed the Bicol Express rice dish whose authenticity pleasingly reminded her of the cooking back home.
Secondly, the environment was reminiscent of Southeast Asia without being obtrusive or over the top. Photographs of street scenes, mainly from Thailand, populate the walls while part of the bar is constructed from the ubiquitous corrugated iron with which structures in the Far East are composed. An eccentric touch in the form of ceiling hunh bird cages with unusual dolls as contents completed the look.
Lastly, and most significantly, was the superb service from the Spanish waiter/manager who went above and beyond his calling to make our time in the restaurant a pleasant one. Without venturing to detail, he capably and politely handled all our problems, including difficulties with our infant. Altogether, this calibre of service is rare, and it impressed upon us both - truly, a man made for the job.
We will, beyond doubt, pay Tuk Tuk a visit on a future...
Read moreHi, we’re never going back here because they gave us raw chicken. We got the korean fried chicken and the inside was kind of pink, we then asked the guy we think is the owner and he said it was a little bit raw only (and then gave us no solution to the issue or anything, or even what it meant). at first we thought it was due to the redness of the sauce, but when we opened the last wing we were about to eat it was way more pink than the others, even though the inside of the chicken hadn’t touched the outside. The flavor itself was okay but the response from the service about it being raw was far from appropriate or caring about the health of the customers. I asked our server after asking her boss and she said that if the boss says it’s edible then it is. Again, no solution to the issue, we still had to pay for the dish...
