After a day of walking among the sand dunes (don’t ask), we were really hungry for good food. Saw the reviews and came here for some good Italian food. And we weren’t disappointed!
The atmosphere was just like the restaurants in Bologna I’ve been to. Authentic modern Italian. The staff were amazing. Just like a family. The young man outside like a fun and playful little brother. The waitresses inside were the sisters and mama or papa chef in the kitchen. Everyone was very professional. We were neither hassled nor left forgotten. Our waitress… the dark haired lady (sorry for not knowing your name) was knowledgeable and polite. Then there was the food. For not having the local ingredients from the foot of mount Vesuvio, it was damn near close! The pasta was al dente and you could taste every ingredient in it. The fish was perfectly cooked. Smooth but still light and crispy. The bruschetta was just a little bit too sweet. I guess the tomatoes were a bit sweeter than I’m used to. Personal taste. I like to have balsamico on mine. But the bread as awesome and portion sizes generally were spot on.
We also got a starter dish with fried chickpea fritters served with ayoli. Amazing!
I thought that an Italian restaurant without pizza was going to be a gamble, but I was wrong. There are enough pizzerias around.
Thank you for a very nice dinner! We will definitely be back!
Ps. We couldn’t wait to start the fish before taking a picture. There was more of it just a...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I arrived at mama chef after a very difficult taxi journey and really were needing some good home made pasta. Thankfully, we were greeted by the main man Maximilian who explained their history and food. After some deliberation and fighting we agreed to have some aperol spritzes to cool us up. These drinks were fantastic and Orange. While we were sipping the drinks the waitress gave us a bowl of special delightfulness with homemade special mayo. Wow. These were INCREDIBLE. Next, we received our starters. Cheesy foccacia and ball of rices (can’t remember what it’s called but they rhymed with Aaron cleany) needless to say these balls were brilliant. We then wanted to order some wine so we ordered some red wine. The kind waitress kindly recommended us some red bottle. It arrived and we tasted some, it tasted AMAZING. Honestly I did not think I would ever think I would try red wine but I was just happy. Then came our big event, the main event. I had the best Sicilian fish I have EVER had. My husband had the pork patanegra and was blown backwards. He said “you cannot try to eat anything off my plate, for it is too tasty”. He gobbled most of it in 4 seconds and was gobbling some great big food. Sadly, the meal had to come to an end at around ten pm. Because it was past closing, we can’t explain how unreal the experience made us feel. We will be back very early tomorrow! Thanks so much to all the people who made our night...
Read moreGood food overall although our mistake in ordering Sangria in an Italian restaurant will not be repeated…it was terrible, but it wasn’t on the menu, so appreciated their effort. The-waitresses were friendly but were constantly removing things from our table, before we had finished, presumably in an effort to get the table free for the next guest. The pepper pot we requested was actually empty and everyone who works in hospitality knows this is the most basic of errors! The outside is literally on the side of the road to the supermarket but everyone in attendance would rather sit there than the incredibly poorly presented interior. The lights inside are so bright and it completely lacks ambiance. Then the owner arrived in huge truck and it was truly like the second coming of Christ! We almost wet ourselves with the comedy of his arrival and subsequent antics including trying to place a reserved table in the road (which the customers refused and were made to sit in the surgically lit interior). He was actually ok but really over the top. Not the sophisticated experience we were dreaming of. The actual pasta was fabulous although a small portion for the price. Would we come back again? Probably no. Sort out the interior design, the music and tone down the self importance of the owner and possibly yes… the food in any restaurant is the most important, but not...
