We had heard and read so many great reviews of this restaurant and, given that we were staying at the adjacent Marina Bayview Hotel, a visit was surely a must. Initial impressions were excellent although we were a bit confused as to how to reach the restaurant itself. That’s because Sidonia restaurant forms part of the Los Veleros Apartments which is gated. The young lady who acts as a rep outside noticed us looking and she met us at the gate and escorted us to the restaurant. We wanted to book for the Friday, in two days’ time, but we were told the restaurant was not open then. We booked instead for the Saturday and both our names were taken and placed in the diary. We were offered to see the fresh meats and fish available, something we had heard was done here, but we said we would wait until the night of our meal. Everything felt very friendly and great, and as expected.
We showed up at the restaurant some ten minutes early on the Saturday. No table was reserved and we got the impression that the ‘hostess’ was not expecting us and slightly bemused by the fact that we had booked. There were several tables available but not one by the ‘windows’ which we had hoped for. It is recommended therefore that if you want to take advantage of the magnificent views from the restaurant you should specify you would like a ‘window’ when booking.
We selected our main course, both going for the Angus steak (medium) and assumed that we might be shown the cuts so as to make a choice, this being a regular feature of the reviews we had read. This didn’t happen and was a bit of a disappointment. When it came, the steak was pre-sliced which we thought rather odd. The cuts themselves were disappointing. One in particular contained a lot of gristle and both were tougher than we would have expected, and not particularly well cooked. It was well presented on the plate with salad and a red pepper and came with chips and a pepper sauce. We did not however enjoy the steak.
We were disappointed that no one came to check with us whether we needed or wanted anything and the general attention we received was far below expectations, again having read the reviews. The chef breezed pass once without stopping on his way back to the BBQ and waved ‘everything OK?’ but that was it.
Overall, there seemed to be a staffing issue. The hostess and the chef were the only ones we saw.
This was such a disappointing experience and nothing at all like...
Read moreA hidden gem. We only found out about this restaurant from fellow holiday goers in our hotel who claim it’s one of the best.
We were met by a very kind waiter who seated us in seconds and we had the menus straight away. Great pints of Amstel and local Spanish beer on tap served here.
The king prawn in garlic oil and garlic bread starters were very nice. Good portions but not too much. Adding to this, the same waiter brought by a steak selection to choose from on the plate ready to go on the grill. He did the same with fish too. We decided on the kebab skewer and Angus steak with vegetables and potatoes.
Very good food, too much food even. I was only able to eat 2/3 of my steak. It was very tasty and served with their signature peppercorn sauce.
I recommend this restaurant highly. Their selection is big, the staff are very friendly and you have some amazing views of...
Read moreRestaurante Los Veleros offers a great dining experience with excellent views over the coast. The seafood here is top-notch, particularly the paella and grilled fish. The flavours are fresh, and the portions are generous. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The restaurant has a relaxed, coastal vibe, and the staff are attentive without being intrusive. The service is efficient, and the setting, right near the sea, makes it perfect for a leisurely lunch or dinner. Prices are on the higher side, but it’s definitely worth it for the atmosphere and the quality of the food. If you're looking for a scenic, seafood-filled meal, this...
