RESTAURANTE EL LAGAR — Restaurant in Nerja

Firstly as soon as we were outside the restaurant a man greeted us and welcomed us in. The restaurant was quite empty at the time (1:30 pm)and we were a little bit unsure but we got in 🙂. We decided to sit inside as it was quite windy outside. It was cozy inside with a heater on the wall. We started off with some drinks. My husband took his usual Nordic gin and I took the mojito which was surprisingly very good compared to what I’ve had in other places. Starters we took the aubergine with honey also really good and the foie gras. The portion was quite big for us ( I guess good value for the money 🙂) Mains we took suckling pig, iberian pork and salmon with dill for my son. All very satisfying but again I think the portions are big enough to be shared by two people. We then ended it with coffees. Only thing was that I ordered the tiramisu which they forgot which was okay as I was really full by then but I would have loved to try it as usually desert is my highlight when I go to restaurants. We booked a table pretty last minute on our last day of holiday, and it was no issue for them to seat us, we had a delicious meal, tuna tartar which you could taste the tuna was fresh, beef tartar with delicious seasoning. We ordered a lot of steak, 3 T-bones & a Chateaubriand. All of the meat was incredibly tasty and cooked to perfection, we ate it all and enjoyed every bite, some on the table even finishing off the meat from the bones hahah! The dessert was nice to finish off with and a little spade as a spoon was a nice touch.

Service was fast and good, gets a little loud when full tables but that’s just because of the area the restaurant is situated not fault of the restaurant itself.

Without a doubt, the food is lovely. Starters were large and the steaks to follow were just delicious.

I have deducted a star for the overall experience due to the initial greeting we received after arriving. We had booked a table and were met by a very sullen female who clearly couldnt be bothered to even make an effort to welcome us. The younger waiter wasnt much better to be honest. However, we were then served by the older gentleman who couldn`t have been lovelier and gave us great service.

The experience is not just about the food after all, excellent service is a must.
