Greeted by very nice staff, english menu, got seated right away and were able to order right away.
The first plate we got was the turnip top goat cheese pie. As I would have considered it more of a pizza, my friend described it more as a pancake. So the judge on what it actually was is still out, however, whatever it was it was great!
As our second place, we had ordered the braised beef with roasted vegetables. Mind you, this is Spain; the land of tapas. So, if you’re looking for huge dishes with mountains of roasted vegetables and millions of potatoes, this isn’t it. However, this was still a very nice and respectable dish. My friend found the beef a bit chewy, but he just got the more fatty part of the beef. I feel like if you order beef, you automatically take the risk of getting some fat, so I didn’t mind this being there.
For dessert, we order the special; cheese mouse with chocolate cookies and marmelade. Now, we ordered this because we had no mental picture of what it could be in mind, but when out plate showed up we were again very pleasantly suprised. The presentation (of all of the other dishes also) aswell as the taste again sat very right with us.
The price of all of this was also reasonable for the quality we were getting. Mind you, we are students and very poor, so this says a lot I think. This entire experience was predated however by a bad restaurant situation were we had ordered frozen pizza, so we might have been seeing this restaurant experience through rose tinted glasses. We really did enjoy it a lot though, so all compliments to the waiters/waitresses and...
Read more(the place has recently changed management and I would base myself off of newer reviews for an accurate description of what Fogar is really like) Increíble! We went there on a Monday evening, table for 2, and we only have positive things to say about it: The food, which is grown by the restaurant, has some of the best flavours we've ever tasted; the bread is out of this world and the homemade fries are incredibly fresh. If you want to try a desert, I recommend the "tarta de queso" as it is simply heaven on earth. The place itself is an authentic Galician establishment, down to the plates that are the same ones my great-grandma, and every gallego household, used to own. Obviously, I'd recommend staying for "A queimada" (the burning). A show of an old galician tradition to cast away the witches. Enjoying the eau-de-vie afterwards is a nice way to end the evening! Knowing you are eating great food in an ecological restaurant is...
Read moreI am a fan of their restaurant in the countryside, but our experience in the one in Santiago was not great: the menu is super confusing (both because the website scrolling isnt smooth and also because with the creative naming of dishes it's hard to understand what is what), the food was ok but nothing to write home about (the pizza 'with vegetables' had some raw lettuce on it. Lovely lettuce, no doubt from their own garden, but still.. lettuce on pizza). And the worst thing was they evidently had some major issue today with ventilation and smoke extraction, we were there with 4 kids who were all crying from the smoke in their eyes and noses (and we adults were not doing very well either), and the servers (who were also probably suffering!) never came to offer a word of explanation or apology until after we threatened to leave. There are plenty of restaurants in the vicinity, some better than others, but I won't be...
