We chose to have our last lunch in Seville here as it was such a nice location and we were prepared to pay for that…..Had chosen what we wanted but was approached 4 x by the waiter who seemed to be the Maitre De pressurising us to have a particular fish dish…. We don’t speak Spanish, apparently his English wasn’t good…. We were on holiday , relaxed and due to his persistence we gave in……big mistake.
The fish dish was expensive and not to our taste, we didn’t enjoy it. Worst of all he had insisted we needed 2 servings….. clearly not the case! But doubled the cost. Once served he didn’t come near our table. We didn’t pay the full bill, paid for both portions, even though there was so much food wasted as we couldn’t eat it. Regret that now. Didn’t pay for the extra wine we hadn’t had but had been charged for. Certainly not the service charge. In retrospect we should have stood our ground about what we wanted or then sent it back….. but hindsight is a wonderful thing and perhaps we are just a bit too British! On holiday, don’t speak Spanish just didn’t want to make a fuss. But felt like we were being taken advantage of, language barrier being used as a means to exploit us. Having read other reviews this is not an isolated incident. Suspect not all staff are involved. Had a lovely time in Seville but this has left a very bad taste both literary and...
Read moreThe waiter (several reviews seem to mention him) was rude - I can only assume he doesn't like foreigners even though I was making the effort to speak Spanish. My Spanish isn't perfect, but I've not had issues ordering food at other places. He clearly tried to confuse me/get me to order more than I wanted, was rushing and wasn't listening/ letting me finish a sentence because he couldn't be bothered, hence he got the order wrong and then was clearly ignoring me when I was trying to get his attention to get it changed - he made eye contact with me several times and turned the other way. I ended up taking the tea back to him by the bar and explained it was the wrong one, again he wasn't listening and his colleague ended up repeating what I had said. So he took the tea away, but didn't bring what I had ordered instead, so I had to ask again. Honestly it's ridiculous to make things so difficult and unpleasant for everyone. Food was good, but not worth the stress. I didn't bother asking him for the bill, I went straight to another staff at the bar to pay and I'm clearly never...
Read moreBefore I sat down I asked the waitress if they had tapas. Yes , and she also offered me the menu del dia. As this venue was close to the Cathedral I wasn’t surprised that the menu del dia was €13.50. Then a waiter came and said that the menu del dia was finished (3pm). He suggested the chuletta de ternera which was €8. The white wine I asked for was great. However, with much ceremony a heated plate and two salads arrived followed by an enormous amount of chopped steak. What did the waiter think I had asked for! He pointed to the 100gm selection on the menu. Seeing my consternation he removed the plates and offered me the menu del dia. At this point I just wanted to leave. I asked for the bill for the wine but he wouldn’t accept payment. I don’t know what the food is like here but make sure the staff know exactly what you want. I left with mixed...
