Before you go to Seville’s oldest tapas bar 🇪🇸 I couldn’t find this easily on the internet when I was researching this restaurant and the booking policy isn’t clear on the website. If you’re looking for tapas and the standing bar (where the staff write your bill with chalk on wooden counters) it’s first-come—first-served for small plates for one, sharing portions and hand-sliced jamon. If you want to book for a sit-down meal, table service or for groups - there are dining areas across 3 floors and larger plates. El Rinconcillo is Seville’s oldest tapas bar. Serving up traditional Andalusian-Mozarabic food since 1670, it’s become an institution and attraction for tourists and locals alike. The prices were reasonable and despite the mixed reviews online, I found the waiters to be direct but charming. I would say I’ve had better food on this trip (Bar Triana and La Brunilda) but was still a memorable experience. I ORDERED: - White prawns of Huelva (200g) gambas de Huelva €22 - Large clams from Galicia (300g) almejas Gallegas €17 - Andalusi gazpacho €6 gazpacho andaluz - Spinach with chickpeas €10 espinacas con garbanzos - Grilled squid €19 calamar de botera plancha - Beef entrecôte 600g €36 entrecote de vaca retina - Glass of red €3.70 - Beer €2 KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: - Tables can be booked online but wait for a confirmation email or call the restaurant to book if it’s within 48 hours - The servers won’t ask how you’d like the entrecote to be prepared and it’ll come out (very) rare by default. I personally liked it but others may not #seville #elrinconcillo #tapas #sevilla #sevillespain #spain🇪🇸 #thingstodo #spaintravel #visitseville #sevillespain🇪🇸 #sevillagram #sevillaspain #sevillafood #sevilla_ciudad #andalucia #andalucía #andalusia #europetravel #europetrip #europesummer #sevillacentro #tapasbar #spanishfood #europevacation

This place is fantastic! We got to the restaurant around 19:50 pm and I’m glad we did because shortly after arriving, the line continued to grow longer and longer very quickly. We didn’t have a reservation but we were able to get in right away when they opened. We opted for the tapas section which is standing only/no seating but that didn’t bother us at all. My husband was on a mission to get some jamón. We ordered about 3 plates of it because it was seriously that good. Definitely the best jamón we had in Seville! Our waiter was so patient with us as we ordered multiple rounds of food. He even recommended the right cheese to pair with our jamón selection and continued to bring us bread. The service was outstanding here. They are very attentive to each table and orders come out quickly. We did make the mistake of ordering a €60 grilled squid dish but that was our fault. The waiter attempted to confirm if this is what we wanted and we said yes but we were expecting fried calamari and we failed to specify, but that’s okay!! The dish was delicious nonetheless. The croquettes were also amazing and I highly recommend you order some for the table! You won’t be disappointed here. The experience alone is unique and full of history, the food is tasty, service is amazing, and it is actually very affordable! Definitely get here early if you don’t have reservations or you may be waiting outside for a while. The line for tapas seems to move decently fast so the wait for tapas at least shouldn’t be too long if you don’t get in right at open. They also have an English menu QR code and some of the waiters know enough English to help make recommendations which is extremely helpful.

I was really excited about our reservation at this restaurant, which I made it. Three weeks in advance …. Unfortunately the experience was a letdown and the most impressive thing about it is the location and the fact that it’s one of the oldest operating bars in Sevilla now converted into a restaurant is a really cool thing but sadly, the service is less than desirable, and the food was just mediocre we were sat at a table and ignored for at least 10 minutes. Finally, we were given one menu to share between three people.. nobody took a drink order or even brought as water. When the server did finally get around to us, it felt very rushed and he was quick to tell us that they were out of all but one of the fish options on the menu. Like seriously?? How?? Our reservation was for 8:30 PM and the restaurant opened at 8 PM. They couldn’t possibly have a run out… They clearly just didn’t have it in stock or didn’t want to make it So, although my two friends had intended to each get separate fish dishes, they were forced to both choose the same item. I got the solomillo and we shared the espinacas con garbanzos.. The fish was way over salted and chewy and my pork was tougher and not as tasty as those I’ve enjoyed in much less expensive restaurants. All in all the experience was meh! I would say skip this place. Maybe grab a drink in the bar if you want to experience the ambience of the 350+year old establishment because that’s all this place really has going for it.. sadly I wouldn’t recommend.

I was really looking forward to dining at this popular restaurant in Seville after doing quite a bit of research, but the experience was disappointing. The waitstaff were kind and understanding, but the food didn’t live up to the hype. The clams had great flavor, but they were served at room temperature, which took away from the dish. The biggest issue, though, was the “special” chop steak—a massive tomahawk priced at 75€. The server had highly recommended it, but it was far larger than described, and when it first arrived, it was cold and undercooked, despite us ordering it medium rare. We sent it back, and when it returned, it was somehow fattier, chewy, and still not enjoyable. While the waiter acknowledged the issue, no effort was made to resolve it. Ultimately, the service was fine, but paying 75€ for a disappointing steak left a bad taste. For the price, I expected much more, and I wouldn’t recommend it based on this experience.

2,5/5 With nearly 300 years of experience, this authentic establishment is highly regarded by everyone, so we made a reservation online well in advance to avoid the worry of not finding a table. However, when we arrived, they couldn't show us to a table. Despite a four-person table being available, they wouldn't seat us there because we were only two people, and they didn't even apologize. Additionally, despite Russian salad being on the menu, they insisted on recommending a tuna Russian salad, which we declined. I ordered a beer, and the waiter made a rude comment, saying, "Just a beer?" as if I were obligated to order wine. As for the food, it was just average in taste—nothing special. Overall, it was a terrible experience from start to finish. This kind of behavior is typical of poorly managed tourist spots that don't care about service quality, assuming tourists won't return. In my opinion, this place is overrated.
