This place is fantastic! We got to the restaurant around 19:50 pm and I’m glad we did because shortly after arriving, the line continued to grow longer and longer very quickly. We didn’t have a reservation but we were able to get in right away when they opened. We opted for the tapas section which is standing only/no seating but that didn’t bother us at all. My husband was on a mission to get some jamón. We ordered about 3 plates of it because it was seriously that good. Definitely the best jamón we had in Seville! Our waiter was so patient with us as we ordered multiple rounds of food. He even recommended the right cheese to pair with our jamón selection and continued to bring us bread. The service was outstanding here. They are very attentive to each table and orders come out quickly. We did make the mistake of ordering a €60 grilled squid dish but that was our fault. The waiter attempted to confirm if this is what we wanted and we said yes but we were expecting fried calamari and we failed to specify, but that’s okay!! The dish was delicious nonetheless. The croquettes were also amazing and I highly recommend you order some for the table! You won’t be disappointed here. The experience alone is unique and full of history, the food is tasty, service is amazing, and it is actually very affordable!
Definitely get here early if you don’t have reservations or you may be waiting outside for a while. The line for tapas seems to move decently fast so the wait for tapas at least shouldn’t be too long if you don’t get in right at open. They also have an English menu QR code and some of the waiters know enough English to help make recommendations which is...
Read moreI was really excited about our reservation at this restaurant, which I made it. Three weeks in advance …. Unfortunately the experience was a letdown and the most impressive thing about it is the location and the fact that it’s one of the oldest operating bars in Sevilla now converted into a restaurant is a really cool thing but sadly, the service is less than desirable, and the food was just mediocre we were sat at a table and ignored for at least 10 minutes. Finally, we were given one menu to share between three people.. nobody took a drink order or even brought as water. When the server did finally get around to us, it felt very rushed and he was quick to tell us that they were out of all but one of the fish options on the menu. Like seriously?? How?? Our reservation was for 8:30 PM and the restaurant opened at 8 PM. They couldn’t possibly have a run out… They clearly just didn’t have it in stock or didn’t want to make it So, although my two friends had intended to each get separate fish dishes, they were forced to both choose the same item. I got the solomillo and we shared the espinacas con garbanzos.. The fish was way over salted and chewy and my pork was tougher and not as tasty as those I’ve enjoyed in much less expensive restaurants. All in all the experience was meh! I would say skip this place. Maybe grab a drink in the bar if you want to experience the ambience of the 350+year old establishment because that’s all this place really has going for it.. sadly I...
Read moreOverall, we are quite disappointed. The quality of the food doesn't match the price, but I can usually get over that if I have an otherwise pleasant experience. My own gastronomic heart broke a little because of how cold and stiff the service is here. I had trouble understanding the Spanish wine list, so I wanted some advice, but I couldn't even finish my question before the waiter suggested a glass of house wine. He wasn't interested at all. From that moment on, we weren't interested to try and interact anymore. The bill was literally thrown on the table. We have rarely felt so unwelcome. For this establishment, the premise is apparently that all tourists are, by definition, stupid people who you can feel superior to because they don't understand anyway.
What a missed opportunity. Personally, we love nothing more than proudly telling our guests about products from our region or how local dishes originated. And it's hard for us to understand how anyone who consciously chooses hospitality would feel differently.
Back to the food: the quality was fine, nothing special. The fish was very well fried. They don't really know how to cook eggplant. The spinach with chickpeas was quite tasty, but it didn't compare to the cozy and unpretentious Tabanco la Duquesa around the corner (and that also applies to the prices...
