This Barra has some serious customer service issues. We were served by the front of house manager, a large dominating personality who quickly imposed himself on our ordering. The first red flag is he claims to not speak good English, he actually speaks it very well, I told him Spanish was ok, he continued to speak in English. He wasn't interested in what we wanted to order and Instead he appears to purposely confuse things while pushing you to buy the catch of the day, which can only be accessed via a poorly displayed menu by scanning a QR code.
We asked for a racion of langostinos. The sever kept on insisting the fish which I had to vocally intervene and say we didn't want. As he walked away, he ok abruptly said 'langostinos y langostinos'. I came to terms with at this point he was going to try serve us two racions regardless of what I was trying to order.
Our starters came and were ok, the dishes he described as being as good as the Michelin sister restaurant were nothing special and when our 4 langostinos arrived, they were very underwhelming. Only one of the two I ate tasted fresh and there was around a prawns worth of meat in each.
Finally we got the bill. The house blanco they served us was the most expensive on the menu, I can accept that. But the bill of €54 for the langostinos was obviously heavily inflated. I flagged this to a waiter, his instant response was it was sold by the kilo. The QR menu which I have attached doesn't mention weight, only racion price, I asked for one racion, which should be €11. The waiter eventually agreed but said he needed to speak with the manager(our original waiter). Together they looked at the menu and agreed it was incorrect (I understand Spanish fairly well). Expecting an apology, the manager decided to try convince us again it was by the kilo, even after hearing them agree the discuss the menu which displayed the racion price only. I held my ground and at this point he pleaded ignorance and could 'no longer speak English' we were eventually charged €22 euros for two racions.
My overall view is to avoid this place, I don't think La Barra De Cañabota has the best intentions and has no issues taking advantage of its customers. Service is poor, the food is ok and It's not worth the experience. My gut says that this Barra is probably a cash cow to keep the Michelin...
Read moreWe were very excited to experience La Barra de Cañabota to celebrate my partners birthday.
When we arrived the waiter presented us with a platter with 4 or 5 fish and told us to choose from this selection and his recommendations. Daniel recommended that the dishes were ordered to share so to order several as the portions were small. He also recommended some starters like the marinated sardines.
We ordered two Gildas and the sardines to start with langostines and seabass to share from the selection he presented. The sardines arrived and were very underwhelming. We've had cheap canned sardines with more flavour. The seabass arrived after the langostines and a different waiter presented two portions. I said to the waiter that we ordered one to share he said yes but left the two there. Not to cause a fuss on my girlfriends birthday we ate the food but when the other waiter noticed the mistake he tried to tell us he recommended two plates to share and not one. When he understood that we knew he made a mistake, he took the plate of food partially eaten out from under me.
As we sat there, other restaurant guests were ordering other fish that was not presented to us initially that looked nicer than the fish they were possibly trying to get rid of. We felt duped and very let down at the service.
As left in the booking notes that it was my girlfriends birthday, I expected some sort of recognition from the restaurant but heard nothing. We ordered a slice of cake to share (I thought it might have a candle) but still nothing.
In the end we were charged over €45 for a measly portion of average seabass and it was unclear whether they charged for one or two portions.
We left very disappointed and confused with a bill of ~€150 for a subpar meal with worse service and could not recommend this experience to...
Read moreI recently dined at Barra and I must say, it was one of the most disappointing experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment we walked in, it was clear that this establishment does not value all its patrons equally.
Firstly, we arrived without a reservation and were treated as though we were an inconvenience. Despite being seated at a spare table, the staff's attitude made it abundantly clear that we were considered second-class citizens for not booking in advance. Hospitality should never come with conditions.
Secondly, the service was appalling. Our waiter got our order wrong, and when we politely sent the incorrect dish back, the head waiter approached us with an air of hostility. Not only did he rudely demand confirmation of the mistake, but his demeanor and the discriminating look he gave us were utterly unprofessional and unacceptable.
As for the food, it was a complete letdown. The fish was not only undercooked, the calamari—supposedly a highlight given the restaurant’s Bib Gourmand recommendation—was overly salty and far below the standard one would expect. The overall quality was mediocre at best, leaving us questioning the credibility of the restaurant’s accolades.
What made the experience even more disheartening was the subtle yet palpable sense of racial discrimination. As an Asian diner, I couldn’t shake the feeling that we were being treated differently, and this is something no one should ever have to endure.
In summary, La Barra de Canabota, failed on every front—service, food, and basic respect for its customers. I would strongly advise against dining here unless significant...
