Visiting this palace was a wonderful experience, and taking the group tour (an additional 3euros PP) is highly recommend. The architecture alone is sublime, and includes ancient mosaics (II and III a.C) which the countess had added in her 19th century remodelling of this previously typical 16th century Palace. I have never seen such an impressive and complete collection available in a home such such as this, and I am deeply grateful to the current descendants of the Countess of Lebrija who have left this treasure intact and generously made the furnished palace available for all to experience. The belongings of this family are diverse, historic, beautiful, rich, stylish and rare and to see them is such abundance and so well cared for is a unique experience. If you have the opportunity you must take this tour, I did not learn the name of our guide, but I hope you will have her, she all but sings the narrative, you will know when you hear her. Without the tour you will not see the amazing 2nd level with the vast treasures, nor will you hear about this interesting woman; the Condesa who brought her style and passion to create this incredible place. She said " Houses have their own countenance. They have souls. They have something indefinable, born of an idea or feeling. Now renovated embellished, it is the short compendium into which my whole life has been condensed. It is the shrine in which I have conserved the revered treasures of my grandparents and the art treasures accumulated during a lifetime." i...
Read moreAn excellent way to start your journey in exploring Andulucia. I asked our tour guide (which is needed to see the upstairs room), how the Condesa obtained these riches. It was through the wealth generated from rents of her husband the mayor's vast land holdings. So, she was able to become the great collector and amass a stash of decorative arts that will take your breath away. Visit this location, before strolling the stores in the area. It won't be the first attraction where you'll see the objects of obscenely wealthy people, but it is one of the most pleasant to walk through. Interior designers and afficiandos of Victoriana will be smitten with this place, as you will see objects that inspired the Victorian Aesthetic movement here. I see others posting here that are complaining about the prices (being within 2 euros of what they charge at the cathedrals). To that, all I can say is that this place does not get the volume of visitors as a cathedral, and it therefore must be higher. Having owned a very old property, I am sure the upkeep is expensive. Yes, it would help if one is a lover of decorative arts, when visiting the upstairs, otherwise you won't really understand the significance of her selections. But that said, it is...
Read moreVisiting the Palace of the Countess of Lebrija was one of the most fascinating parts of our trip to Seville, and our tour guide, Lucia, truly brought the experience to life.
Lucia was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, which made the entire tour engaging from start to finish. She had a wonderful way of weaving together the history of the palace, the remarkable life of the Countess, and the incredible collection of Roman mosaics and artifacts. Her storytelling made every room feel alive with history and personality.
The palace itself is absolutely stunning — a hidden gem filled with artistic treasures, beautiful tiles, and an extraordinary blend of Roman, Moorish, and Renaissance influences. But what made it unforgettable was the depth of insight Lucia provided. You could tell she genuinely loves sharing this cultural treasure with visitors.
Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, art, or simply wants to experience something truly unique in Seville. Don’t miss the guided tour — and if you’re lucky enough to have Lucia as your guide, you’re in for...
