Restaurante El Mascarón — Restaurant in Sitges

Picked this spot because of the reviews and location. I was seated immediately but was very put off by how totally dismissive the server was. Another server asked for my drink order and I told her a male server had taken it. I asked for wifi for my translator and she brought me an English version of the menu; she was lovely. The other server plunked down olives, asked if I was ready to order…was I just having drinks? I said I was having food, ordered, and again he was abrupt, dismissive, and almost rude. I quickly asked if the dish was spicy and he replied yes before moving away. I tried to connect by saying, great that’s what I wanted. Food arrived quickly, I said, wow that was quick, no acknowledgement. I managed to order another glass of rosé, which was dropped off unceremoniously. Now I’ve been sitting waiting for my bill and being ignored (much like trying to order that rosé). If you get me out, you free up a table, jerk! Right now I’m just fuming. Obviously this place (or this server) hates customers, or single customers? Or women? But despite an enjoyable meal, I won’t be back. Their customer...

It succeed my expectations totally. I went with a group of 6 friends and we had an amazing experience. You know it's a good restaurant when the first thing you try (the bread) is amazing, followed by a good selection of wines, tasty starters (the crab croquetas are a must) and finishing up with really good rice.

I say it succeeded my expectations because I've been to Sitges a lot of times and have eaten from really good to really bad and never heard of El Mascarón, but let me tell you I'm going to recommend it to everyone that's looking for a nice evening combining drinks and food.

Sitges tiene mucha variedad como para no estar a la altura. Cuando hicimos la reserva por teléfono, ya nos dio la sensación que la persona que nos atendió no era precisamente una gran fan de los clientes; seca, tirando a estúpida, palabras a trompicones y poco interés. Hoy, al llegar, nos ha costado menos de 2 minutos identificarla...porque era tal cual. Nos ha tomado nota (la misma persona de la que hablamos) casi a regañadientes. Tras tener que esperar más de 20 minutos para que nos preguntara qué íbamos a comer ha venido con desgana, nula empatía y con prisas; tantas que se ha equivocado al apuntar los primeros y luego nos ha intentado "pasar el marrón" y que uno de los comensales comiera algo diferente a lo pedido... Ni explicaciones, ni disculpas. Ha tenido que enmendar su error un amable compañero (habían algunos muy amables; la insulsa estúpida parecía un caso aislado). La calidad de los platos bastante escasa. Incluso los mejillones, que es el marisco más barato que hay, no brillaban por su excelencia. La paella justita en todos los sentidos. Por cierto, la primera vez en mi vida que veo una paella sin gambas . Lo único que relucía por ahí encima era un escamarlán más seco que el mojama... Postres poco variados y o muy simples (yogurt, piña, pastel de chocolate más industrial que una fábrica...) Todo eso en un menú de unos 23€ sin bebida que ha acabado en 30€ por cabeza. No los vale ni de lejos... Al principio de leer la disparidad de opiniones (muchas excelentes y algunas en la misma línea que esta) pensé que quizás diversas personas habían tenido un mal día...o que los más optimistas eran el típico perfil que no tiene ni idea de comer bien. Ahora ya no tengo dudas y tengo clara la respuesta... No...
