I recently dined with my partner and a group of friends at Mare Nostrum yesterday, and unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. Here’s a breakdown of my visit:
Positives:
• The starters we ordered were delicious and well-prepared, showcasing the kitchen’s culinary skills. • The manager, a lady, pleasantly handled our bill, providing a glimmer of warmth in an otherwise disappointing encounter.
Negatives:
• My companions and I opted to start with appetizers, as we weren’t particularly hungry. Unfortunately, our decision seemed to displease our waiter, Manel, who exhibited visible frustration and promptly took away the menus, displaying a clear lack of professionalism. • Throughout our hour-long stay, Manel made no effort to check on us, inquire about the meal, or offer further food or drink options. This lack of attention was a significant letdown. • Manel’s demeanor from the outset was notably discourteous, leaving us feeling unwelcome and unappreciated. This sour interaction marred the overall dining experience. • Given the poor service we received from Manel, it’s regrettable to say that I cannot rate this establishment even with three stars.
In summary, while the food quality was commendable, the regrettable behavior of Manel overshadowed any positive aspects of our visit. I had hoped for a more pleasant and courteous dining experience for our...
Read moreAt first glance this restaurant is a typical Spanish family style restaurant on the up market end. Prices aren’t cheap.
After a long wait, we ordered a few starters and a main to share. It came out very slowly.
The two staff on shift were clearly finding it difficult so we were patient. Our food took about 45mins to arrive in total.
It wasn’t welcoming and there was little attention to detail when dealing with customers. More than once we had to ask for various things, ash tray, the bill or just to get their attention.
For the most part the food was okay, a tad over priced for what it was and two of our 6 croquets were still cold on the inside. Razor clams and oysters came out at an okay pace. side note - the oyster, although €5 each were very very lovely. Our longest wait was for mussels in a tomato sauce (45 mins)!!
I then ask both the staff for the receipt and it didn’t arrive so I had to go inside and ask in person at the till to pay. We were then over charged, it was a simple mistake but after all the other things explained, it felt like a faff. Highlights a lack of attention to detail.
All in all not the relaxed lunch we wanted. Over priced food, but good food Poor/ slow service Wanting of...
Read moreI recently dined at this restaurant, and overall, I found the experience to be quite positive. The food, service, and welcoming atmosphere were notable highlights, contributing to an enjoyable evening. However, there are a few aspects to consider.
Firstly, the food offered at the restaurant is generally good, with some dishes standing out more than others. I particularly enjoyed the delicious soup, which was a highlight of the meal. However, it's worth noting that the quality of some dishes can be inconsistent. For instance, I found the sole to be less than fresh, which was a bit disappointing.
In terms of service, I found the server to be pleasant and attentive throughout the meal. They took the time to share interesting stories about the restaurant, which added a nice personal touch to the dining experience.
While the overall experience was positive, it's important to mention that the restaurant does have early closing hours, so it's advisable to plan accordingly.
Additionally, it's worth noting that the restaurant is on the pricier side compared to others in the area. While the quality of the food and service is generally good, some may find the prices to be...
