Michelin-Quality food and experience that truly exhibits the greatness of the local, La Manchan cuisine.
I visited for a 13:30 lunch with my wife as we were exploring Toledo for the day. I was excited to eat at a nice restaurant, and was especially excited that their focus was on food from La Mancha. The greeter was extremely friendly, and both he and the other server provided great service and were very accommodating throughout the day.
My wife and I ordered on appetizer to share and then each got our own main plate. We also ordered a bottle of the house red for only 18 euros. For the main plates, we went with the recommendations of our server - the grilled tuna and the venison, while for the appetizer we went with the Lomo de Orza.
The Tempranillo, especially bottled for the restaurant, was phenomenal - bold yet very well balanced. I have paid three times as much for bottles and wished they were the quality of this wine. The bread served to us was also firm on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside.
The Lomo de Orza featured very fresh cuts of ham and was paired with a smooth, balanced dollop of ice cream. This especially pairs well with a light red wine, and was a great way to start the meal.
Our main dishes were also spectacular. The venison my wife got was cooked to absolute perfection and was perhaps the best cooked I had in my life - it was simple, moist and rich with flavor without being overwhelming. My grilled tuna was also very delicious, and a must order for appreciators of tuna. Paired with thin, grilled vegetables and a light sauce was relatively simple yet again extremely well prepared. Both the presentation and the taste reminded me of a high quality sushi roll - cut into bite size pieces that are extremely easy to eat and intake the flavor.
My policy is that if I am enamored with the meal, I am require myself to try their desserts. Today was no exception, and we ordered both their modern take on mazapan and the chocolate dessert. Again, both were well executed and delicious, although snot the best part of the experience.
I cannot iterate enough how amazing my experience here was, and I would highly recommend to both locals looking for a great, relaxed, elevated experience or visitors looking to experience local cuisine in a low-frills but well presented manner. I would be more than happy to...
Read moreGood Salmorejo as appetizer. Entrees: Artichokes with squids and fishes eggs for my fiancee and Oliviers cream for me. Main courses: for me a bull tail with chocolate cream and liquorice mayonnaise over a potato tortilla. for my girlfriend tuna tartare with bloody mary sauce and avocado. everything delicious, the service was really good. two small critics, based on our personal tastes: the chocolate and the liquorice are really difficult flavour to manage, but maybe it was possible to make them stronger? they barely were recognizable... and the tartare was a little too strong in garnishment and the flavour of tuna was lost in some moments. A little garlic more of what we were used to, but really just small personal details. Otherwise all really good. Value for the money? for us yes but you can decide: we paid little under...
Read moreMediocre food at tourist prices. Food was okay, not amazing. We didn't received much attention throughout our dinner, although we did notice that other tables were getting more attention than we do. I'm not sure if it's because we were seated in a corner, or we did not order enough? We got 2 entrees and 1 glass of wine. I was also surprised to see that there's an additional 10% tax on top of the total bill, especially since in Spain, prices on menu are usually inclusive of tax. Bread was an additional cost too, and we did not know that until we saw the check. Personally, I find that rather sneaky and that really adds a negative impression I have of this place. Definitely a tourist trap place, and one of the most expensive places we have been to in Toledo (but not one of the best, sadly). Save your money and go...
