We loved the food and the friendly waitstaff so much (and the many vegetarian options) that we ate here three nights in a row, and usually ended up with leftovers in between as well. The variety of taco types and fillings offers something for everyone (including GREAT vegetarian options) and the opportunity to sample the whole range without spending much. Late-night runs with a toddler asleep at home (with my wife watching him) made quick takeout essential, and service was fast, cheerful, and creative in finding ways to take home what I wanted. We especially loved the squash blossom quesadillas (the aguas de horchata y de jamaica too). Impossible to imagine visiting Toledo again without visiting...

Restaurante Mexicano La Madrísima serves up tasty Mexican food right in the heart of Toledo’s old town.

The staff are warm and welcoming, and the place has a fun, lively vibe. We dropped by on a packed Tuesday evening without a booking, but they kindly found us a spot in the front area—definitely recommend reserving ahead, as it’s clearly a popular spot.

There was even a mariachi serenading diners while we were there—not sure if it’s a regular thing, but it made the night extra memorable.

5 stars for a real authentic Mexican restaurant. I’ve lived in Puebla, Mexico, and have lived in Toledo for four months now - this is one of my favorite places for food! Delicious tacos and gringas, and salsa that will make you want more. Met the owner a few times, he is always very attentive and caring.
