1 Rato Mas — Restaurant in Valencia

Unfortunately, my experience here was quite disappointing, despite the very nice setting with a lovely terrace and pretty good service.

I met a friend there before heading to an exhibition. She had barely touched the empanada she ordered, mentioning that it tasted a little odd and suggesting I try it for myself. Indeed, it wasn't just 'odd'; the inside of the chicken empanada was extremely sour. It genuinely tasted like it was nearing or had already passed its expiration date. I took one bite and immediately had to spit it out. To my dismay, I then noticed a piece my friend had also discreetly spit out and wrapped in a tissue paper next to me.

I also ordered an iced Americano. It tasted less like coffee and more like cold coffee-flavored water. For an iced Americano, the strength and flavor of the coffee are crucial to stand up to the ice; however, in this instance, the ice only served to emphasize the coffee's weak flavor.

I highly recommend 1 Rato Mas. I was recently in Valencia for one month and lived nearby. In my opinion, the best cafe in the city! Coffee and food were always fresh and delicious and at an excellent price. Cheerful and friendly staff even when busy -it is a popular place for locals and visitors alike. I have spent nearly six weeks in Valencia and I came across this place the first day I walked the city. I decided to stop by for a coffee and quick bite. To my surprise, I was greeted kindly by the owner Walter, and the rest of the staff. My Spanish is very poor and it was comforting that Walter was able to communicate with me in English.
