My friend and I had made a reservation to eat at the Taberna de Marisa, and were severely disappointed, to say the least. Already when we arrived and asked for our reservation, we were not treated in a friendly manner, because for some reason they could not find the reservation and were annoyed that we should ask about it, since there were still empty tables. We sat down and order to entrances (croquettes with ham and with egg plant) and two main dishes (1 salmon and 1 paella). We also wanted to order two drinks local drinks (Agua de Valencia), however, on the menu they only listed a price per jug and not per glass. We asked for the price per glass and were again belittled by our waiter for having asked such a bothering question. While the drinks were served fast, we had to wait for our (minuscule) entrance for about 30 minutes. Then we waited for the main course for even longer (around 50 minutes), amongst others, because our waiter dropped our plates so all had to go back to the kitchen. It would not have been a problem, had she informed us that it would take a bit longer. Our main course finally arrived and we asked for the bill soon after. We were surprised to find the paella on the bill twice, and also to find bread on the bill, that we not only did not order, but also asked our waiter to please not leave it on the table, since we would not be having it (she had brought it only once she had brought us the main dishes). The waiter was super irritated that we dared to ask questions about the bill, accused us of being avaricious and just walked away on us. Another waiter came and explained that even though it says that you can have 1 portion of Paella, they only make Paella for 2 persons, so it is always 2 portions, so you pay twice the price it says on the menu. While one waiter was explaining this to us, our previous waiter kept talking about us to his waiter-friend, basically telling him that she had already explained it all to us (which really she had not). Also, this note would have been helpful when ordering, not when getting the bill. Our previous waiter also used the time when he was talking to us to further express her feelings about us. Even though he saw her colleague behave very poorly, the new waiter did not intervene and we were left with no further option then to pay 3 main courses. However he did have the courtesy of removing the bread from the bill, since it had barely touched our table. We then waited for another 15 awkward minutes for our previous waiter to come back and cash in, since she had left the credit card reading device unattended on our table. When she finally came back and I could type in my pin, she ripped the reading device out of my hands, even tough with foreign credit cards you first have to chose the currency I wish to pay in. She went on to chose that I wished to pay in Euro for me, so I cancelled her choice and chose my local currency. She completely freaked out about me choosing myself in what currency I wished to pay, even though it does not make the slightest difference for the ones receiving the money. Our waiter from this moment on pointedly refused to further look at us until we hurriedly left our table. What a despicable behaviour and a terrible experience.
Even though the food itself was ok (not more then ok, but still ok), I would definitely not go through the hassle of eating here and having to endure really poor service and be insulted and overlooked by unfriendly, appalling...
Read moreUsually I dont write reviews but this time I felt like I needed to summarize our experience.
We had two days in Valencia, so we thought we should have a nice dinner, try paella and some local seafood.
I read mostly good reviews about this restaurant so we thought we should give it a try. The moment we arrived we asked for a table for 3 persons, to have dinner. They told us that they have a table so we went inside, but instead of the restaurant section we got seated downstars to a bar table (that was originally for 2 people) and they brought us a third chair.
We ordered a bottle of cava, a paella pan for 2 person and some seafood as well. Unfortunately our table was so small that they put our bottle of cava to a different table and we had to get up, get the bottle and pour the drink to ourselfs every time we wanted to drink. The staff didnt even try to help. After, they served one of the dishes 25 minutes earlier than the paella, so we had to eat completely separately.
When we got the paella we noticed that its barely enough for one person (we left the restaurant feeling hungry), the dish was dry and tasteless, honestly one of the worst meals we’ve ever had. At least the third dish (pickled tuna that was served way before) was alright.
After we finished, I had to get up from our table to put away the half-empty paella dish (that covered half of our small bar table) so that we could finally have the bottle of cava at our table. The waiters didnt come to clean the table, or to ask us about the meals or how are we doing, not even once.
At the end we paid 95 euros for this dinner.
The cherry on the top was that we asked for some tap water with the cava, and they also kindly asked if we would like some bread with the seafood, but at the end we were charged for both.
I genuinly dont recommend this place, and not because I try to be mean. The stuff was not mean at all, but we are honestly really disappointed and we feel like our night was ruined because of this...
Read moreFirst of all the waiter said there was no space outside, despite there being a table in front of me. When I went in to ask, they showed me to the empty table outside. Not to mention the manner in which he turned me away, he'd already lost a mark by then. Then, although they were clearly willing to make paella for one (as at least the person on the next table had), they wouldn't do it for me. He said it was an exception for them! After all that, I ordered meatballs from the menu; not only were they mediocre, but there can't have been more than 40 grams of meat, and FAR smaller than you'd expect from the picture in the menu. In fact I think they were frozen. Overall the most disappointing meal I've had in three weeks of travelling, but especially the service from the male waiter outside. There are several other restaurants in the immediate vicinity which look much better (I only chose this because it LOOKED as though they were doing paella for one. Just turned out to be selectively). Considering the great food that can be had in Valencia, DON'T EAT HERE; the food on other tables also looked...
