Juu ni is a great restaurant overall. It definitely has a Japanese vibe and offer great food. I’m giving it a 5 star based of food experience but I will give specific criticism for the dishes we ordered.
Karaage- it’s ok. It’s been coated with a seasoning that I have never had on karaage before and I’m not convinced I liked it. The chicken itself, was perfectly cooked!
Tempura prawns - this is an absolute must to order when you visit. 10/10 dish. Even better than all the tempura I had in Japan and Melbourne.
Maki rolls - we had the avocado/tuna/mango/cream cheese roll. It’s different but in a very good way! It has a summer feel to it and the cream cheese makes it feel substantial.
Shoyu ramen - overall, it’s a great ramen… but! The egg was below average for me. It’s not even marinated and over cooked. If the egg was better, this is a very good ramen, but all ramen lovers know that the egg is pretty much half the score. All other aspects of the ramen are good/great!
Matcha ice cream- Also a must order if you like matcha. If you don’t, it’s not a good introduction to try matcha as it was very authentic and strong, the cacao nibs complement it perfectly and I could eat this every day.
Mochi - it’s frozen mochi, which is not stated on the menu....
Read moreThe waiter who served me and my girlfriend was very rushed and everything we wanted he would reply with no. for example when we ordered the karage I asked if we can get a sauce he said the sauce is already on top (the amount of sauce he was reffering to was in a ratio of 1:300) then i procceded to go to the chefs counter to get soy sauce and he quickly stoped me and told me where the toilet is and left, he clearly doesnt know how to serve customers properly. The fish they use for the sushi is good nothing bad to say but the essential fault they made is with the rice! it was very sweet and it completley ruined the taste of the sushi me and my girlfriend had to resort to drenching the sushi in soy sauce to not taste the sweetnes of the rice, they really need to address this issue urgently! because the prices do not reflect the quality and customer experience. + I have a feeling the edamame are microwaved because some are hot some are cold and the karage is not very authentic and definitley not...
Read moreGood, with some for improvement. Good and friendly service. I came by without the reservation for an early dinner on Fri and got a nice seat. Seaweed salad was good in quality and quantity. The barbecued (a la brasa) oyster was cold and had no fiery / woody flavour. Also, the water-based sauce it came with was quiet salty, if you slurp it out of the shell, it overwhelmes the oyster. The sauce had a lot of flavor, almost too much for the oyster. Mixed sashimi for €18 had 6 really small pieces of fish and 2 small, sliced scallops (they tasted bitter, strange). The salmon of the sashimi was great, though. The matcha ice cream had a lot of matcha flavour and little sugar (which is great), but the also bitter cocoa nibs did not complement it, so a missed opportunity to create contrast. Furthermore, they were all over the ice cream and could not be avoided. I would come back for more to try...
