Cafe Shaze — Restaurant in Colombo

Last visit was two years ago. Decided never to go again after following experiences (Not sure if they have improved). on my last visit with friends on a Sunday afternoon 1pm prime lunch time. cafe was relatively empty. our Order was an hour and ten minutes late. each of our friends meal arrived at separate times. two of our friends cancelled their order and left as they were getting too late (one hour). One item on menu was a grilled chicken with rice. picture on menu showed a large piece of hind quarter chicken but when it arrived it was a small full leg with whole load of rice (looked more of a typical rice and chicken lunch in Sri Lanka. Was not worth the Rs. 700 odd of the listed price. We also ordered a beef Lasagna 30 minutes later the waiter returned and said that they did not have beef lasagna. we changed the order to Chicken Lasagna (by this time we were all very hungry. When the lasagna did arrive it was still semi frozen in the middle. We also ordered a chicken pasta dish at Rs. 900. it was the last to arrive, it was very small portion and had four marble sized pieces of chicken. I felt ripped off for the price we were paying for the dish as the manager claimed that that was their serving size. . we refused to accept it. with literally every one of the eight dishes we ordered having some fault the manager did take back the pasta (add more chicken) and gave it to us as a take away and did not charge for it.

Summary : This is one of the good Coffee shop in Colombo 7 to have a decent meal while hangout with your friends or office colleague.

Food :

The food was good, reasonably priced and generous portions considering prices and quality of food being served in similar locations in Colombo 7 area.

We ordered a Chicken Berger meal. It came with some potato wedges, salad and a very big Burger.

Burger was very fresh and it was good enough for 2 persons. I shared with my friend.

Potato wedges were nice and tasty. The Salad was fresh, creamy and testier.

Coffee or Drinks :

I ordered a Cappuccino as usual and it was a good one. I love to drink piping hot coffee or Cappuccino ,but it was hot enough.

My friend ordered iced Coffee but I am not sure whether he enjoyed his Coffee or not.

Staff :

The staff members are very polite, very patient and attentive. I had a discussion with the Manager about the business. He had all the patient to listen and talked to me.

Ambiance :

The place has enough space to occupy a good amount of people. It has a decent interior design but there is room for improvement.

The 1st floor has rooms where you can host a special event like B'party or private party.

The reception area is small but you can sit out side the coffee shop if...

Issue is not with the food but the service. We repeated our order 3 times and after 30 mins again the waiter came and asked what drinks we ordered. We ordered 2 items from the same menu and he delivered only 1 and took another good 20 mins to receive the other one. He didn’t know the ingredients that were in the each menu. My friend was allergic to some veggies so we asked for the ingredients. He simply said, veg pasta means, there’s no meat or egg. We don’t add any other veggies. Apparently it has some veggies. Finally I have my card to make the payment and waited for another 20 mins and the card was not returned to me. When I went and asked for it, all looked surprised. They charged the card and didn’t know where they put my card. They were not even bothered about these things at all. While they were searching for the card in the cashier counter, I found mine outside near another table. Conveniently kept there. No sense of responsibility when dealing with customers card. What if someone stole and used it? Cafe chaze wont take responsibilities at all. We filled a customer satisfaction form and gave but I don’t think they will ever show it to the management....
