Café on the 5th — Restaurant in Colombo

The food on offer here is indisputably star class. I challenge anyone who says their prawn rolls are anything but the best they've ever tasted. Not forgetting - their stuffed chillies, chicken ham & egg Paradise roll, jak cutlets, prawn crepes, their divine chocolate eclairs & cream buns, mutton lasagna, their rice & curry and their good old dependable iced coffee. Yummmm. I've been going there regularly for over 8 years and their food has been consistently fabulous right throughout. It's a little high on the spice but that's exactly how I like it. The staff? Absolutely obliging and warm.

So why the four stars? Their bathrooms are ok but only ok. In fact I'd say, woefully inadequate for an establishment such as theirs, of their kind of repute. After countless times of having to fish out my own tissues (no TP), to wiping up other's mess (not cleaned regularly enough) to using my own sanitizer (no soap), I just prefer to go to other places with decent bathrooms if we need to do a combined meal & toilet break with my kids. And I just don't get the square commode with round toilet seat cover (this from the last time I visited but it's been a while). It's like it's last on their list of priorities. Or the person in charge of renovations just got distracted when it came to the toilets. May be they just brought out a fresh batch of newly fried...

Sadly the food quality was not upto Expectation considering the location and prices. When we went the staff at the dining eara was not too bothered of customer service and wasn't very helpful or polite towards the customers. It was very hot outside and inside as they only had fans and no air-conditioning anywhere within the premises.

As it was very hot we looked for a table with a fan above the table and once we went to sit we noticed that there was some milk spilled on the table, so we very politely asked one of the staff members who was right next to the table who seemed to look like a supervisor if they could kindly clean that for us. We were surprised to hear his response which was "MOVE TO THE NEXT TABLE " now that we felt was extremely unprofessional of them asking the customer to move and not clean the table for the customer. Regardless of the response we sat and stated ti oder food and eat and even after 45 minutes that milk was not wiped off the table. Sadly we had to again ask to get it cleaned and this time a staff member came to wipe it off but the look on his face was not happy.

Considering the prestigious name, location and pricing on the menu they should definitely work on and improve their customer retention skills or those people should not face or deal...

I booked a table for 9 people for dinner on the 10th November. We came there at 7pm. My guests didnt arrive till 7.30pm. At 7.15pm a waiter asked me if any one from my table would order chicken curry? I asked why, he said they take 45 mins to cook chicken curry. How am I supposed to know if my guests would order that? So I said that if they want they can cook that and if my guests want they can have it. He said if we dont order that, their chicken curry would be waisted. When I wanted to order chicken salad, they said they have run out of salad. My guests did not like the kottu and it did not taste well. Pasta was also not that great. When we wanted to order dessert, the waiter said they only had ice cream and ribbon cake only and that they have run out of all other desserts. I made the reservation in advance and we did not get the food we wanted to have. Why cant they be prepared with more food so that they will not have a shortage? The waiter was in a hurry to send us away. We felt like they were racist against us. We didnt even leave a tip. The service was very bad. We were very dissapointed. I do not recommend this place to anyone. We will never ever...
