Read moreThe worst dining experience I’ve ever had was at Ketam House, Marine Drive, Colpetty.
My husband and I were starving and decided to try this place at sharp 12 noon. We ordered: • Authentic Nasi Lemak (from the menu) • Kottu • Honey Lemon Tea (for my husband) • Ketam House Special Chai (for me)
First issue: after 30 minutes, the waiter (who also seemed to be in charge) told us Honey Lemon Tea was not available. Why take the order in the first place if it isn’t available? We had to change to another chai.
The place was full of flies and mosquitoes — especially flies. When you open a restaurant, hygiene should be a top priority. Customers are paying money and expect at least a clean environment.
We ordered at 12, but food only came at 12:45. And the quality? Terrible. • The Kottu: extremely salty, overloaded with MSG, absolutely inedible. I mentioned it to the waiter, but nothing changed. • The Nasi Lemak: a complete joke. It was literally Sri Lankan milk rice with the same curry served with my kottu. Nothing close to authentic nasi lemak we’ve had in Malaysia.
To make things worse, while we were eating, the staff actually brought a mosquito-killing racket and started killing flies at our table! One fly even fell onto my plate. Completely disgusting.
We couldn’t take it anymore. My husband was furious. We paid, took the manager’s number, and left.
Verdict: This is the dirtiest, most disappointing restaurant in Colombo. Overpriced, unhygienic, and absolutely not worth it. Please don’t waste your time, money, or appetite here — even if...
Read moreI decided to try this place as an alternate place for fine dining in crabs and though I appreciate and encourage the effort, it’s not someplace I will rush back to. It’s a start up, and I support the venture. But considering that it’s a new enterprise, they need to price it a little more reasonably. Though I had no reason to complain, as a reviewer, I am trying to keep expectations real. It’s a small place, quaint, and full marks to the staff; they are courteous and enthusiastic. They are also reasonably well trained. The ambience is fine, not way up there but pleasant enough to enjoy your meal. It simply doesn’t add any value to the meal, if you know what I mean. The food, well, I had the curry rice and the Malaysian Chilli crab and though the curry rice was bang on, the crab was not up to MY taste. It was an excellent crab, well prepared, but it was kind of sweet, a flavour I don’t appreciate in my food but you may like it. Also, though I am a veteran crab eater and crack crabs open with my teeth, the shells on this crab needed to be slightly better cracked for the average eater. All this would be better digested if the pricing was just slightly slightly better, for now. And I wish them all the best...
