Glashuset: An Icy Reception on the Stockholm Waterfront
Walking into Glashuset, one is instantly captivated by its prime location on the Stockholm Strandvägen waterfront. Boasting an exquisite contemporary design, this restaurant initially promises an unforgettable dining experience. Unfortunately, that promise remains unfulfilled.
As I entered, the maitre d' gave me a once-over glance, then promptly returned to her post, thoroughly engrossed in a conversation with another staff member. Eager to absorb the ambience while I waited, I meandered over to the bar, hoping that a drink would lessen the sting of my initial cold reception. Little did I know, this would become a recurring theme.
The wait time at Glashuset isn't defined by minutes, but by sheer endurance. Despite the bar offering refuge, one can't help but notice the cavalier attitude of the maitre d' who is seemingly content ignoring customers for hours. Glashuset could surely use a refresher course in hospitality.
Glashuset appears to be the current "in place" for Stockholm's elite, but one can't help but sense a looming expiry date on its popularity. It feels like a refuge for those looking to affirm their status, rather than a venue for those looking to enjoy a good meal and ambience.
The food at Glashuset is nothing to write home about either. The menu is a lukewarm take on modern cuisine that seems as bored as the maitre d'. The portions are small, the flavors are bland, and the presentation lacks creativity.
The only saving grace of this establishment is the head bartender. His attention to detail, warm personality, and skillful concoctions offer a much-needed contrast to the otherwise cold and uninspired service. His departure would indeed be a death knell for Glashuset, transforming it from a tepid 'in place' to a forgotten blip on Stockholm's dining scene.
In conclusion, Glashuset is a case of style over substance. Its location and sleek aesthetics lure you in, but the lackluster food and snobbish service leave you cold. It's a place that prioritizes appearance over enjoyment, and as such, it's hard to see its shelf life lasting more than a few months. If you're looking for genuine hospitality and a memorable dining experience, you'd be better off casting your net elsewhere in Stockholm's rich...
Read moreWe started with the Beet It cocktail which was lovely and refreshing with a complex flavor I’ve never before experienced in a cocktail. I liked it so much that I am going to try to recreate at home. Then for appetizer we ordered the fried artichokes— absolutely amazing in every way. For our mains got the Grilled option for two —the variety of selections that came on the board was thoughtfully seasoned and tasted amazing. However the cut of beef was questionable at best. Really wish there were more beef cuts available besides sirloin as it was fairly chewy and some pieces actually inedible. A complaint of the experience is the awful seating of a pre-reserved table for 2 between two large party tables, not even by the window. It was nearly impossible to have a conversation over dinner due to the loudness of the surrounding parties and loud club/like music bumping in the background. Ridiculous, so if you’re considering it for a date, don’t expect to be able to get to know someone here. That kind of atmosphere was unexpected based on the pricing of them menu and location of the restaurant. Overall it was a wonderful experience and while I would not go back on a Friday night during dinner rush, I do recommend to anyone looking for a great tasting meal with unique variety that embraces some Swedish summer...
Read moreNice place, awkward experience with barman.
Drinks: 8/10 we had a glass of good champagne. Nothing to be unhappy about. Good standard
Atmosphere: 9/10 it is nicely decorated and has a great vibe. You can sit next to the window and spend some time observing passing people and boats.
Service 3/10 - it is not 1/10 because there was a very pleasant gentleman who welcomed us at the reception. But 1/10 for ordering and service in the bar. I spend 10 minutes next to the bar trying to attract attention of a barman. I was the only client. He saw me multiple times. But ignored and continued cleaning glasses. I tried to stay positive. Then he came to me and fastly nodded ( like what do you want ) I ordered champagne and olives. When olives arrived he put as far away from me as possible between two sitted people so I had no chance to reach but asking people to move.... :D very strange experience.
Value for money: 7/10 great location and place to have an afternoon drink. Olives were expensive and not so good. Champagne...
