Strandvägen 1 is one of my favorite restaurants in Stockholm. Fantastic atmosphere, especially during Friday and Saturday evenings. Creative cuisine, traditional, however. Attentive service. Unfortunately, our last visit this Sunday (tonight) left us with a disappointing and frustrating feeling. First of all, the wine offered on the wine list was not the actual wine they had but the second wine of a Bordeaux winery. The manager apologized and offered us some extra “amuses bouche.” Okay, the second wine was decent, but it was not what was offered on the wine list. This is not professional. At the time of ordering, we wanted to have two entrecôtes for a price of 525 Swedish crowns each ($48 each), and the manager proposed instead to take an entrecote on the bone for two, which was supposed to be much better. The meat was good indeed, but nothing exceptional, knowing the quality of the beef in Sweden, which is normally very good. The portions were relatively small, the French fries, the salad, and the sauce were offered at their minimum. The service was negligent, although the restaurant was 2/3 empty. When we got the bill, the price was more than three entrecôtes together, meaning $170 for two for the meat only. The full bill was about $ 270, no starters, with one bottle of wine , one desert shared, one expresso coffee. I don’t mind paying for a good meal, but I hate to be ripped off, and that is the feeling I had leaving the place I’ve been visiting regularly for the...
Read moreI am a frequent visitor to Stockholm and actually have lived here. I get the Uber-euro-chic vibe that serving staff like to present. But at the end of the day you are paying and the server needs to understand that. Let me be clear, the food got top marks for sure but you are absolutely over paying for that already. You would expect the minimum from the server to at least say please or a thank you. We were treated, with a dismissive attitude from our unnamed waiter who in his perfect American accent said he was from Brazil that is until I ordered a $400 bottle of wine and tone changed slightly, At the end of the meal he asked if we would like to move to the bar because clearly we had stayed beyond HIZ 90 min limit to turn the table. I politely asked him 'don't we have some of our wine left? Oh, yes you do he replied surprisingly. Did he think I was going to leave it? My guest was shocked as was I. He was more interested in moving us from the table than he was in doing his job, which throughout the meal was below average. The total bill for our meal? Three pre dinner cocktails, 3 main dishes and the aforementioned bottle of Calera Vineyards 2000 Jensen Pinot Noir? 4400 SEK or $660 CAD. I say get over yourself and remember your...
Read moreWe walked in as a group of three, me and my parents. The blonde girl at the entrance, who was very kind, was about to seat us outside, but since it was too sunny, we asked if we could eat inside. She said yes and let us in without any problem. Inside, the dining room was completely empty, with only two-person tables, so we sat at the only table for four available. Then a waiter came over, a young guy with an arrogant and disrespectful attitude, and snapped at us saying we should have asked him before sitting down. We explained that the girl outside had told us we could sit there, but he treated us like garbage and even told us to leave. Such rudeness and lack of respect we have never experienced before in our lives. We are polite, respectable people, and something like this had never happened to us. That guy should seriously learn how to do his job, because with that attitude he won’t get far in the hospitality business. It’s sad to see how some people have more ego than brains. A bitter, unpleasant experience I wouldn’t...
