I've been here a fair few times and every single time I'm blown away by the food here. It's an incredible mix of spices and immensely unique to anything you've likely had before.
The menu is pretty vast and I definitely recommend getting a 2/3 things to try if you're a group of 2 hungry folk or 3 looking for a different kind of meal.
Service certainly varies, staffing numbers (and presumably in the kitchen too) in here varies quite a bit which can lead to waits of up to an hour or so. This is totally unpredictable so just be prepared to set aside about 3 hours if you go to cover both eventualities. I've been here during both slow and fast service, it appears to be a small set of close-knit staff from the community (Who do a brilliant job at showcasing Eritrean food in Stockholm I must add!) running the place. The Sunday brunch looks wonderful, though I've never been before and I can imagine it is very busy owing to the fact it appears to be the go-to place after Sunday service!
The interior is really unique and the location is wonderful too. A great place to go on cold nights but also in the summer given its location in Central Stockholm!
If you're visiting or a local looking for something a bit special, definitely consider Jebena. The food is well worth the wait and given the close-knit staff, they only want to serve the very best Eritrean food, something that is rather hard to find in other cities.
They also do a great range of vegetarian options too so if you have non meat-eaters, they'll be sure to find something that will appeal...
Read moreWe had a fantastic experience at Jebena! From the very beginning we received wonderful help with ordering, and the service remained excellent throughout the evening.
We started with the Jebena Mix Rolls, soft injera rolls filled with a spicy chili sauce, timtimo and hamli. A perfect start that really set the tone for the evening.
For the main course we chose Beb´ainetu, a delicious combination of Kulwa, Tsebhi derho and vegetarian dishes, as well as Lamb Kulwa, where the lamb was perfectly cooked in berbere sauce with the house spiced butter, jalapeños and tomatoes. The flavors were pure, intense and beautifully balanced, a true explosion of taste!
What really elevated the whole experience was our waitress, who was not only incredibly serviceminded but also took the time to show us in a very pedagogical way how to eat the dishes and explain what everything was. Eating with our hands was not just fun, but also part of the authentic experience.
The restaurant has a cozy and warm atmosphere. The interior feels genuine, the music set the mood, and our waitress came to check on us several times so we felt truly well taken care of.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ So if you’ve ever considered visiting Jebena, stop thinking about it and go there right away! A restaurant we highly recommend, both for the amazing food and the genuine sense of hospitality. We’ll...
Read moreI went with an older friend and he was specially excited to try injera for the first time. But right from the start, we were greeted by a pretty unfriendly attitude from the male waitress, even though the restaurant was completely empty. He insisted we sit at a table in the middle with hard metal chairs. When we asked to sit at a table with soft cusions, since my friend has injuries and can't sit comfortabley, he flat-out refused and basically said, "Either you sit here or you leave."
We were stunned by that unwelcoming, rigid attitude. It felt so unprofessional and cold. There were plenty of free tables, not even reserved, but his mindset was just "you sit here or you go." It seemed more about asserting authority than giving decent service.
When the food finally arrived, it didn't get any better. The meat stews were tasteless and cold. The vegiterian dishes tasted okay, but they were cold too, as if they had been sitting out for a while.
The atmosphere felt stiff and completely devoid of positive vibes. We felt downright unwelcomed and will absolutely never go back, alone or with friends. Too bad, because we really looked forward to trying something new, but it ended up being a...
