We had a great dinner at Prinsen during our first visit to Stockholm! Very busy on a Saturday night so recommend reserving in advance. The change over of tables was so quick and impressive! I tried herring for the first time and absolutely loved it! The starter - Sillbricka with five different kinds was a perfect way to try it. My husband’s Toast Skagen was great too. The Seafood Wallenbergare was new for me too and an unexpected texture but delicious and full of flavour. My husband enjoyed the meatballs. Nearly too full for dessert but wanted to try the Swedish cheesecake to round off the night of new foods! Different to cheesecake I’ve had in the past as it’s made with cottage cheese & almonds - really delicious with blackberries, toasted almonds and ice cream. Service of the food was a little slow but understandable on a busy night with the staff working very hard. The short break between courses was welcome and we really enjoyed the atmosphere and our dinner overall!

We had high hopes for Restaurant Prinsen, as the atmosphere and decor were absolutely charming, with a cozy, classic vibe that really draws you in. However, the experience fell short when it came to the food and service. The Wallenbergare and meatballs, which are supposed to be standout dishes, were extremely disappointing—lacking both flavor and quality. On the other hand, the Toast Skagen was a pleasant surprise and one of the few highlights of the meal. The service was another letdown. Simple things like refilling water were overlooked, and it took over five minutes to flag someone down just to ask for the check. For a restaurant at this price point, this level of service is unacceptable. While the setting and ambiance are lovely, the poor food quality and inattentive service make it hard to recommend Prinsen. For what they charge, you’d expect a much better overall experience.

I was in Stockholm on vacation and came here the day before yesterday because a friend recommended it to me before returning to Japan. The atmosphere and the food are very nice and i was happy to know the traditional swedish food. But, I went in with my clothes on before I boarded the plane with no make up, so the young blond waiter looked unwelcome to me, which made me feel uncomfortable at first time. I would have felt even more comfortable if he improved his attitude. The older server was very very nice and had a comfortable time finally. I wish they would treat customer regardless of our attire since it is a restaurant to serve food and sometimes there are customers who isn't well dressed like me due to before airplane, even though they have enough money, but we would like to go back next time with appropriate attire.

Excellent restaurant. A famous, old establishment that serves up only the best of Swedish classics. No compromises in quality and taste over the years.

So how does this place stack up against one its closest competitor - Pelikan Restaurang?

The prices are about the same. This place is more exclusive and you receive a warm, personalized unrushed treatment. Pelikan in comparison feels like an overcrowded noisy food hall.

FOOD: Splendid tastes, beautifully plated.

🔸️ Bread rolls ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Flavourful, well-rested dough.

🔸️ VIT SPARRISSOPPA ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The essence of the white asparagus ìs infused in a cream soup. A warm soup that comes in a steel soup jug. Poured out before you on a soup plate at the table.

🔸️BIFF Á LA RYDBERG ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This dish deserves more than 5 stars. The crispy potato cubes are fried to perfection. The pan-fried onions are so delicious and the cuts of steak are perfectly browned and while the meat is kept medium rare. The combination of potatoes, onion and steak eaten together are a match made in heaven.

Ok, there is also an egg yolk and pepper root cream that I was supposed to use to with the dish but really, when the main dish is good enough on its own, there was no need.

🔸️ VÅRA HEMTRILLADE KÖTTBULLAR ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The best Swedish meatballs dish hands-down.

The medium sized meatballs go beautifully with creamy brown sauce, slightly sweet / tart lingonberries jam and sliced pickled cucumbers.

The creamy mashed potatoes left me with strong fond memories.

This dish sets the bar for any other Swedish meatballs dish that one encounters afterwards. Only few will come close.

🔸️ ENTRECÔTE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Superbly cooked, excellent quality beef. The golden brown fries are amazing!

The bearnaise sauce here helps me appreciate why people go crazy over this sauce. I don't normally like bearnaise but here this batch of sauce tasted freshly made. The blend egg yolk, butter and vinegar is skillful.

🔸️ CHOKLADFONDANT ⭐⭐⭐⭐ A semi bitter sweet dark chocolate ball with accompanied with cream. It's a nice small size dessert for closure.

🔸️ BRYGG KAFFE / CAPPUCCINO ⭐⭐ Ok but lacking aroma, unbalanced with too much water and taste is flat.

SERVICE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Old-school with good poise, professional, attentive and efficient 👌.

AMBIANCE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Old fashioned but well maintained. A high energy place with lots patrons. The place is richly decorated with painting, portraits and sketches of the restaurant.

Good to reserve in advance but they do a good job to...

The only reason this isn't a 1 star review is because they didn't charge us in the end.

We ordered two mains and a starter. After about 25mins somebody came over and apologised and said our food would be out in 10mins. 15 minutes later our mains arrived. When I asked about the starter there was a lot of confusion and they were instant that we had eaten it and that I was pulling some kind of joke on them. Once they believed us I told them to leave it, it was already getting late.

Unfortunately my main was terrible when it arrived. Cooking of the duck I had was rushed. Rubbery fat and chewy metallic tasting meat, not pleasant at all. The meatballs were ok but not the hype that I had read online.

We wereoffer a free desert for our trouble but declined as It was now very late and we didn't want to wait another 30mins for it. In the end they said we didn't have to pay, which was good that they recognised their mistake but the whole experience was still awful and I had to leave pretty hungry.

It feels like the whole place is understaffed, the quality has suffered for thia. Given how much they charge for a plate it's really...

A little salty but overall good food but the male waiter who was serving our table was extremely rude. We weren't sure of what the "summer Prinsen" on the menu was so we asked the waiter about it and he went " it's written there". Obviously we know it's written there but we weren't sure even after reading about it which is why we asked. Also the restaurant was almost empty so it's not like he did not have the time to explain to us what that was. Then we asked if they served mocktail and he said "only one". So we asked what was in it. Then he went "fruits". He did not explain what fruits they were. Then we saw a section in the menu which looked like it was non alcohol so we asked him what these were then without even looking he said "ONLY ONE MOCKTAIL". Our glass was empty for quite awhile and I was very thirsty so I called him by saying excuse me then he glared at us and looked away. We asked for more bread and he frowned and reluctantly brought it to us. When we paid for our food he tossed us the receipt and did...
