Everytime I visit a new city, I try to find great streets to start my longly anticipated shopping spree. Usually, I won’t chase the price-dragon on the main shopping streets in the city centres. Instead, I’d like to find the places where there’s a nice mix of vintage, commercial and quirky. If you’re like me, I think you should start your shopping-bonanza-hangout in Stockholm on Götgatan.
Götgatan is a long street that stretches across the southern part of Stockholm, known to us locals as Söder. Some might say that Söder is the hipster-mecca of Stockholm and frankly I’d be a hypocrite to argue against it. I will however say this, if you’re looking for great shopping, bar-hopping, cozy restaurants and friendly coffee shops, Söder is a must and along Götgatan is where you’ll find a great many of these places.
If you take the tube from the central station (T-centralen) and get off at Slussen, you will find yourself smack in the middle of Götgatan. Here you can find great Swedish brands like Monki, Weekday and H&M, and if you continue along the street, towards the big dome Globen, you’ll find vintage shops, bars and restaurants on the connected streets of Götgatan.
After you’ve exceeded your credit card limit, plop down at one of the hip bars, spend the rest of the afternoon people watching and give yourself a good pat-on-the back for a shopping-job well done.

Read morei know i’ll be perceived as biased writing this review. i have worked here for the past 5 summers and eaten probably close to all the flavours that stikkinikki has produced in this time. but honestly i think that this makes my review more credible - because the fact that i have not yet grown tired of eating the stikkinikkk gelato after having it so much for 5 years speaks for the quality of it and just how tasty it is. yes sometimes the textures aren’t what they should be (my tired scooping arms would know) but most often they are really really good, and the flavours (even the weird ones like chilli crisp) are so incredibly good that i never fail to get excited when i see some of them. my favourites are: the blueberry lavender, the earl grey tea, the mesost, the vegan salt lakrits, the vegan chilli crisp, the vegan butterfingers (ugh)!!!!! (that’s another thing, stikkinikki is the ONLY place in stockholm that continues to make really really good vegan gelato and sorbets and have multiple options!!! the mariatorget location is my favourite spot to go to when i’m not working (yes it’s so good that i go to buy gelato when i’m not working), but the götgatan location is where i feel at home

The lady who helped us behind the counter was such an angel, she really made our night :) we'd stepped in about 15 minutes to closing, giggling and goofy, and she was nothing but kind and patient as we made our selections, even cheering with us when my card went through (they don't accept cash and my funds were running low lol). I'm pretty sure she even threw in a discount there, but I was too shy to question it!
The ice cream itself was awesome, we got the split scoop of the birthday cake (chunks of cake and swirls of jam, goodness gracious) and cookies and cream (dude, oreos), and of the chocolate (super dark and rich) and olive oil (different, but appealing to a certain palate!). The portions are huge, way generous for the price point imo - 56 kr for a split scoop, which is one massive scoop but with two different flavors :D great deal for homemade ice cream!
Thanks again to the fun lady behind the counter for indulging us with our shenanigans tonight ^^ this ice cream was the healing salve for an otherwise chaotic day, and though she may not have known that at the time, this is def going in the core memory bank of our minds lol....
